Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

The Department of Psychological Sciences (soon to be named Department of Psychological Science and Neuroscience) in the College of Sciences and Mathematics at Belmont University is seeking applications for a tenure track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning August 1st, 2022.

Job responsibilities include twelve hours of undergraduate teaching per semester as well as other departmental, college, and university professional responsibilities, including academic advising, student mentoring, scholarly activity, and service. Candidates must be committed to superior teaching, and teaching responsibilities will include Introduction to Psychological Science, Research Methods, upper-level laboratory-based courses in areas related to the candidate's area of training (e.g., Sensation and Perception, Cognition, Emotion), behavioral statistics, and potentially courses in Belmont's new undergraduate Data Science major. The successful candidate will also have a minor in quantitative psychology or evidence of superior data analysis skills. As all Belmont undergraduates complete an innovative general education program with significant interdisciplinary components, Belmont University is particularly seeking applicants who can demonstrate the interest and ability to work collaboratively in course design and to teach interdisciplinary and topical courses in this program. In addition to teaching excellence, candidates are expected to engage in scholarly activity and the supervision of independent undergraduate research in an empirically oriented department with approximately 200 undergraduates.   • Demonstrated ability to advise, instruct, manage, motivate and evaluate students.

  • Skilled in the use of computers, Internet resources, and MS Office software.
  • Ability to learn relevant sections of BannerWeb, Belmont University's online integrated database system for student grading.
  • Ability to integrate technology into the teaching and learning process.
  • Ability to successfully interact with students, other educators and educational institution representatives, and the general public in a professional manner.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Knowledge of the programs and services offered by Belmont University. Interest and ability to work collaboratively in course design and to teach interdisciplinary and topical courses.
  • Ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies.
  • Required Education Applicants must have either earned a PhD in any area of experimental psychology or expect to complete all PhD requirements by August 2022.

    Required Experience Teaching and/or postdoctoral experience is strongly preferred.

    The selected candidate will be required to complete a background check satisfactory to the University.
