Full-time, tenure-track assistant professor position beginning September 1, 2022. Work schedule will vary by term and course. Courses may be offered during regular business hours (8am-5pm Monday thru Friday), in evenings or occasionally on weekends.

General Description:

The School of Education and Kinesiology invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position in areas related to SPED education in undergraduate and graduate programs in the Department of Education. Faculty should be able to contribute to pan-university requirements as needed (i.e. First Year Experience program).

The Department of Education at Pacific Lutheran University offers programs leading to teacher or administrator certification as well as a variety of programs and professional development offerings for already certified individuals. Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses (24 credits per year).
  • Maintain an active scholarly agenda.
  • Contribute to department and university service activities.
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Background working with, teaching, or mentoring a diverse group of students.
  • Knowledge of effective teaching and learning strategies.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both written and oral forms.
  • A commitment to high quality teaching in a private, liberal arts based university.

  • Ability to articulate a clear scholarly agenda that is appropriate to the department resources and position.

  • Knowledge of the needs of Special Education in the K-12 setting.
  • Commitment to continued growth and professional development.
  • Required Qualifications:

  • Doctorate in Education or closely related field. ABD will be considered, but Doctorate degree must be in hand by September 1, 2022.
  • Teaching experience in K-12 schools.
  • Preferred Qualifications:

  • Teaching experience in higher education teacher preparation.
  • Knowledge of K-12 teaching standards for Washington State.
  • Academic knowledge or credentials in SPED.
  • Work Conditions:

    Work occurs on a residential campus in a typical office setting.
