POSITION: ASSISTANT PROFESSOR OF EDUCATION (TENURE TRACK)

Overview:

The Education Department at Grand View University in Des Moines, IA invites applicants to join an innovative department in a liberal arts setting offering undergraduate and master degree programs. We seek applicants who are committed to diversifying the teaching force through intentional recruitment and retention efforts. Our department strives to break barriers to educational access, teach openly about the role of the individual in social change, and work towards cultivating more open approaches to non-dominant cultures/races/orientations; we encourage candidates to apply who have a similar social justice orientation. Our university prides itself on being a student-ready institution, serving a high population of first-generation college students and transfer students.

Successful candidates should be committed to strengthening our education program. Candidates are expected to have commitment to excellence and innovation in undergraduate/graduate teaching, working closely with traditional and non-traditional students in a small college environment with a commitment to student success, and active engagement in scholarly activities. Opportunities to teach graduate courses and courses in the Liberal Arts Core are available.

Grand View's Commitment to you: Grand View provides an intentional mentoring and support program through our Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL). New faculty are paired with experienced faculty as a component of an intentional induction program. Faculty in the Education Department collaborate on a regular basis to ensure that the program is preparing teacher candidates to engage in the K-12 schools of the 21st century as innovative, culturally responsive advocates for their students and colleagues.

Qualifications:

  • Masters of Education, doctorate preferred.

  • Candidates must have previous teaching experience in a K-12 setting. Commitment to culturally competent preparation of teacher candidates to work successfully with culturally and linguistically diverse student populations.

  • A minimum of three years of successful experience in K-12 settings.

  • Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prefer candidates with elementary experience, will also consider candidates with Literacy (Dyslexia and/or Science of Reading) expertise.

  • Prior successful teaching at the post-secondary level and supervision/mentoring experience is desired.

  • Earned Ph.D./ Ed.D. degree in Education

  • Candidates are preferred to have at least four years of successful teaching experience at the K-12 level.

  • History of supervising students in the field or mentoring new teachers is desired.

  • Experience and passion for mentoring, recruitment and retention, and collaboration with local schools and education stakeholders.

  • Responsibilities:

  • Candidate will be expected to teach a range of courses in a variety of modalities, including in-person, blended, online.

  • Academic responsibilities include: teaching and developing undergraduate and graduate courses and providing departmental service, including advising students.
