Job Summary

The Counselor Education Program in the School of Education at Purdue University Fort Wayne (PFW) invites applications for a tenure-track position in Counselor Education with a specialization in School Counseling at the Assistant Professor level to begin July/August 2023. The successful candidate will teach courses in the Counselor Education Program (in-person with occasional hybrid opportunities), provide clinical supervision, advise students, maintain an active research agenda resulting in publication, and provide service to the university, community, and profession.

The Program

The Counselor Education program offers master's degree specializations in School Counseling (K-12 licensure in Indiana) as well as Clinical Mental Health Counseling, and takes a systemic, process-oriented approach to counselor training in both school and community settings. The program has a small group of dedicated faculty members who prioritize a commitment to multiculturalism and social justice, the development of competent and compassionate counselors, as well as maintenance of a collegial work environment based on respect and shared responsibility for programmatic success.

The Counselor Education program also operates the PFW Community Counseling Center, a training clinic that offers free mental health services to the community. All practicum students engage in two or more semesters of faculty- led, live supervision prior to community-based internships. PFW is a campus of Purdue University and is located in Fort Wayne, Indiana, the second-largest metropolitan area in Indiana. It is a thriving community located only two hours from Indianapolis and three hours from Chicago. Fort Wayne has been rated by Niche.com as the #1 city with the lowest cost of living in America for 2022.

Minimum Requirements

Earned doctorate in Counselor Education from a CACREP-accredited program with a specialization/cognate in School Counseling, or have a related doctoral degree and have been employed as a full-time faculty member in a counselor education program for a minimum of one full academic year before July 1, 2013. Candidates who are ABD will be considered with the expectation that the doctoral degree be awarded before the start of employment.

The Department is committed to advancing diversity in all areas of faculty effort, including research, teaching, and service/engagement. Candidates should address at least one of these areas in their cover letter, indicating their past experiences, current interests or activities, and/or future goals to promote a climate that values diversity and inclusion.

The selection committee is also interested in hearing about: any training or experience in School Counseling, the ability to obtain a school counseling license in the State of Indiana, interest in community outreach and engagement, as well as in securing external funding for research and clinical projects.
