IUPUC—Indiana University-Purdue University Columbus—has delivered high-quality undergraduate and graduate degree programs aligned with and responsive to regional educational needs since 1970. Applications are being accepted for an Assistant Professor position in the biology program in the Division of Science at IUPUC.

IUPUC is located in Columbus, Indiana, and enrolls between 1,500 and 1,800 students annually. Columbus is located one hour south of Indianapolis, 1¼ hours from Louisville, and 1½ hours from Cincinnati. A tenure track appointment is available on August 1, 2022, at the rank of Assistant Professor in the Division of Science at IUPUC.

Basic Qualifications

REQUIREMENTS: Candidates should have a Ph.D. or equivalent in one of the specialty areas, or a related field.

Qualified candidate will teach lectures and labs in one or more of the following areas of specialty: human anatomy, physiology, cell biology, microbiology, or biochemistry. This role is expected to teach courses in general biology for majors and non-majors. The successful candidate should have experience teaching undergraduate biology courses. Two laboratory classrooms with preparation areas are available for research activities.

Candidates with a research focus on the scholarship of teaching and learning are encouraged to apply. In addition, the candidate needs to have the ability and interest to work with a diverse student population. IUPUC seeks applicants with a desire to improve conditions in and access to higher education for underrepresented students. Strong oral and written communication skills are a must. Successful teaching at the university level is very important.

PREFERENCES: Two semesters of experience in teaching traditional and non- traditional undergraduate students and demonstrated capacity to collaborate with faculty across disciplines is preferred. Preference will be given to candidates with a record of teaching one or more of the following: human anatomy, physiology, cell biology, microbiology, or biochemistry. Preference will also be given to applicants who have a record of teaching and serving underrepresented populations and first-generation college students and a demonstrated commitment to student and community engagement.
