Duties Performed in the Usual Course of the Job

The Department of Art at Sam Houston State University invites applications for a full time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Graphic Design starting August 2022.

Ideal candidates must have the ability to teachUI/UX and motion design, supported by a portfolio that demonstrates professional achievement in these areas. HTML and CSS skills are preferred, and proficiency with the Adobe Suite of tools is expected.

The desired candidate will posses strong fundamental design, communication, and interpersonal skills, and demonstrate the enthusiasm necessary to contribute to a regionally competitive design program at SHSU.

In addition to teaching 3 courses per semester, some service responsibilities and ongoing research and professional activity within the profession are expected.

The SHSU Department of Art offers a BFA Graphic Design, and has over 100 Graphic Design majors in a department of more than 550 students.

Educational Requirements for the Position

Candidates must possess a Master of Fine Art Degree in Graphic Design or Visual Communications and demonstrate outstanding potential in research and/or creative activity.

Experience Required for the Position

Teaching experience at the undergraduate level is strongly preferred. Professional Design experience is also an asset.
