Brief Description of PSU/School/Dept

The SB is AACSB-accredited, and the Accounting program is one of only 173 programs worldwide that are AACSB-accredited. The SB has a strong commitment to both research and teaching and serves over 3,400 business students. The Princeton Review recently ranked the SB as “one of the best universities to major in business.” U.S. News and World Report has also ranked Portland State University in the top 20 “most innovative” universities in the nation. The university is dispersed over 49 acres of green space amidst downtown Portland's cultural and business center. Portland is a thriving city of natural beauty considered a model for livability, environmental stewardship, and urbanism principles. Portland is consistently ranked as one of the “best places to live” in the U.S. and is within a 90-minute drive of mountains and the Oregon coast.

Position Summary

The School of Business (SB) seeks exceptional candidates for a tenure-track Assistant or Advanced Assistant Professor position in Accounting. The target start date for employment is Fall 2022. The ideal candidate should have:

1) Earned a doctorate with an emphasis in Accounting or related field from a nationally accredited institution (advanced ABD candidates will be considered but must have their doctorate awarded by 30 days before the employment start date);

2) Current evidence or promise of a strong and innovative program of research appropriate to career stage;

3) Recent evidence of high-quality teaching effectiveness in the area of Tax;

4) Willingness to teach in the area of Financial Accounting;

5) A strong and continuing commitment to both research and teaching.

Candidates must be interested in teaching traditional and online modalities at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. In addition, the School seeks candidates whose research, teaching, service, or life experience has prepared them to contribute to our commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in higher education.

Preference will be given to applicants whose research topics and /or methods complement or augment existing faculty, who have accounting/tax work experience, and appropriate professional certification.

Primary teaching will be in Tax and Financial Accounting at the undergraduate and, or graduate level. A successful candidate must be willing to maintain an active research agenda, including publishing appropriate area-related research in high-quality refereed outlets and participate in service to the Accounting area and college.

Primary Activity I - Instructional Minimum Qualifications

The ideal candidate should have:

Total Compensation Range & Benefits Statement

The starting annual salary rate is competitive with comparable institutions. The starting salary may be negotiable and will be dependent upon the knowledge, experience, skills, and abilities of the chosen candidate, the budget of the hiring department, and approval from HR.

PSU's excellent benefits package includes 95% premium paid healthcare; a generous retirement and vacation package; and reduced tuition rates for employee, spouse or dependent at any of the Oregon Public Universities.
