JOB SUMMARY:

The Department of Applied Social and Political Sciences (ASPS) in the College of Behavioral and Social Sciences invites applications for a tenure- track Assistant Professor for the Non-profit Leadership Program beginning Fall 2022. Coppin State University seeks a forward-thinking leader for the Nonprofit Leadership (NPLS) Program who will teach both lower and upper division courses, serve as a liaison and develop greater collaborations and partnerships between departments, across campus and within the Baltimore community. The faculty member is expected to engage in community outreach and build relationships with community nonprofit organizations. It is expected that all faculty members' activities support departmental program goals/objectives and student learning outcomes (SLO's.).

The Department of Applied Social and Political Sciences offers bachelor's degree in Sociology, Political Science, Social Science, Urban Studies, Interdisciplinary Studies and Non-profit Leadership, a certificate in Nonprofit Leadership and minors in Anthropology, Sociology, Political Science, and Non-profit Leadership. The department also participates in a collaborative program with the University of Baltimore, leading to a master's degree in Human Services Administration.

The successful candidate will have teaching and leadership experiences in the field of non-profit leadership. The successful candidate must have experience in supporting and implementing co-curricular activities for students seeking the various non-profit certifications offered by the department. In addition, we seek a candidate who appreciates our unique composition and will be able to contribute to the growth of our multi-discipline social sciences department.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Teach undergraduate courses in nonprofit leadership and other courses within the department as assigned.

Undergraduate student advising.

Engage in innovative curriculum/course development.

Collaborate with department faculty in providing co-curricular students experiences.

Develop internship partners for student experiential learning and community engagement and supervise NPLS interns.

Serve as Program Coordinator for the Nonprofit Leadership Program to include:

Student recruitment and retention activities.

Build enrollment in the program.

Mentoring and faculty support of student nonprofit activities.

Accompany students on various field experiences and conferences.

Engage in assessment activities to maintain the quality and integrity of the program, and to comply with regional accreditation standards.

Represent the program to alumni and other stakeholders.

Commitment to scholarly research and publication.

Service on department, college, and university committees and engagement with the community.

Required Qualifications

EDUCATION :

Doctoral degree in nonprofit leadership or a master's degree in nonprofit leadership and a doctoral degree in a social science or in a related discipline is preferred.

Doctoral degree in any of the department's social sciences disciplines with expertise in non-profit leadership programs and/or research.

A certification as a non-profit professional (CNP) is desirable.

EXPERIENCE :

A minimum of two years higher education teaching experience is required.

Experience in one or more areas within nonprofit leadership, such as fundraising, board development, volunteer development and supervision, program sustainability, and leadership development is favorable.

KNOWLEDGE , SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND OTHER CHARACTERISTICS:

Experience in Nonprofit Leadership subfields such as fundraising, board development, volunteer development and supervision, program sustainability, and leadership development.

Experience in recruiting and advising students

Proven ability and commitment to work collaboratively with people across a diverse range of disciplines and groups

Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students to support student advising, student learning outcomes, and program completion

Demonstrated commitment to community engagement
