for the position of Assistant Professor in the group of research-
teaching staff

Applications to the open call may be submitted by those who meet the
conditions specified in Section 113 of the Act – Law on Higher Education and
Science of 20 July 2018 (i.e., Journal of Law 2022 item 574).
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
conducting scientific research in the discipline of materials science and
engineering using the scanning electron microscopy, the transmission
electron microscopy and differential calorimetry,
developing production technology of the functional metallic materials,
teaching classes in the 1st cycle and 2nd cycle studies in Polish and
English,
applying for financing of the research projects and development projects,
among others, in the NCN and the National Research and Development
Centre's programmes or from other external sources,
dissemination of the acquired research results,
realization of the organizational tasks in scope of promotion of the
discipline of materials science and engineering.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION:
The conditions necessary for the recruitment of the candidate selected in the
selection proceedings are the fulfilment of the obligations arising from
Section 265(4), (5), (13) of the Act – Law on Higher Education and
Science of 20 July 2018 (i.e., Journal of Law 2022 item 574).
In the case of applying for employment at the University of Silesia in
Katowice as the primary place of work, candidates employed in other higher
education institutions as their primary place of work, should, as of the day
of their employment, fulfil the requirement defined in Section 120 of the Act
– Law on Higher Education and Science of 20 July 2018 (Journal of Law of 2022
item 574), according to which an academic may have only one primary place
of work at a time.
In the case of candidates whose diplomas on the award of a professional
title/scientific degree/scientific title require authentication according to
the law in force in the Republic of Poland, employment is possible only after
completing the procedure of authentication of the diploma (nostrification).

Skills/Qualifications
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
minimum PhD in technology in the discipline of materials science and
engineering or in the related discipline,
experience in conducting research in the discipline of materials science
and engineering, including in the area of metallic materials documented by
recent publications included in the JCR (Journal Citation Reports) list,
recent scientific achievements in the discipline indexed in Scopus or Web
of Science databases,
experience and knowledge of methods used in structural research of
materials,
documented scientific internship in the candidate's country or abroad
(minimum 1 month),
experience in realization of scientific projects,
documented history of applying for project financing in the institutions
in the candidate's country or abroad,
participation in a research project, in the candidate's country or the
international research project, financed from the external sources,
experience in teaching classes in the higher education institution, in
particular in the scope of materials science and engineering,
ability to conduct classes using the tools for distance learning,
command of English that allows for teaching classes.
command of Polish that allows for conducting classes or readiness to learn
Polish (in the case of foreign candidates),
documented achievements in promotion of science.
Specific Requirements
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
experience in production of the functional metallic engineering materials
using the arc-melting technique and powder metallurgy,
recent experience in presenting research results at the conferences in the
country and at the international conferences,
ability to operate the equipment for: crating professional documents, data
processing and visualization and operating measuring processes performer
with the equipment for structural research,
experience in conducting structural research of materials using the modern
measuring methods (e.g. DSC, XRD, SEM/TEM),
readiness for research and didactic mobility,
readiness to share one's knowledge and experience with others,
readiness to initiate cooperation with industry,
competences allowing for internationalization of candidate's research
activity (in particular the command of English that allows for writing
publications in that language),
ability to work in a research team.
