Description of primary duties and responsibilities:
The Department of Intelligence Studies, Geospatial Sciences, Political Science
and History at Fayetteville State University invites applications for a
Assistant Professor in History to begin in August 2022. Fayetteville State
University is a constituent institution of the University of North Carolina
and the second oldest public institution of higher education in the state.
Founded in 1867 as the Howard School for the education of African Americans,
today FSU serves a growing student body of approximately 6,000 and ranks among
the nation's most diverse campus communities. Fayetteville is located in the
scenic Cape Fear River Valley of North Carolina, between the Blue Ridge
Mountains and the Atlantic Ocean.
Description of Work Continued:
The IGPH Department is a multidisciplinary and multifaceted, with degree
programs in History, Geospatial Science, Intelligence Studies, Political
Science, and a minor in Philosophy. The department has been designated as a
Center of Excellence in Geospatial Intelligence by US Department of Defense's
National Geospatial Agency. This recognition has made possible, extensive
collaboration among our diverse programs, faculty and students.
The successful candidate must hold a terminal degree in history or a closely
related field. An ABD with college level teaching experience and a completion
date, no later than December 31, 2022, may also apply. In addition to
instruction, duties will include service to the profession; participation in
college and department activities and above all, active engagement in student
learning activities. Candidates must be capable of providing web-based
instruction. IGPH seeks a U.S. historian of the pre- 1877 period with an
interest and ability to teach additional courses in the History of Africa, the
History of the Middle East, African American History, or constitutional/legal
history if the candidate has 18 graduate credit hours in these areas .
Fayetteville State offers the only online history degree in the UNC system and
history faculty also regularly offer college courses to students at our two
Early College campuses, so those with experience in online education and high
school teaching are especially encouraged to apply. Salary is negotiable and
commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
Terminal degree in history or a closely related field. An ABD with college
level teaching experience and a completion date, no later than December 31,
2022, may also apply.
Knowledge skills and abilities:
Teaching and instruction for groups of individuals; ability to communicate
effectively, orally and in writing with peers and students; ability to work
effectively and productively with others; time management skills, and ability
work with minimal supervision.
