The Department of English at the University of Memphis seeks candidates for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in creative writing with a secondary strength in literary editing to join a dynamic MFA and undergraduate creative writing program. The position begins August 2023.

The University of Memphis is a major metropolitan research institution with recent R1 status located in a quiet residential neighborhood of a legendary American city. UofM is a public university of over 20,000 students that embraces its diversity community.

Teaching duties include a graduate literary editing/programming course as well as creative writing workshops and forms courses at the graduate and undergraduate level. Additional duties include service to the creative writing program on thesis committees; direction of The Pinch literary journal; and other service to the Department of English.

Minimum Position Qualifications

MFA or PhD in creative writing; demonstrated teaching excellence; at least one full-length book of creative writing in print or under contract with a nationally recognized press; and demonstrated editorial experience.
