Assistant Professor of Dance Costume, non-tenure, renewable contract
This non-tenure, renewable-contract Assistant Professor position will design and build costumes for dance performances, mentor graduate student costume designers and technicians through the production process, and teach costume design and technology classes in areas related to dance such as stretch fabric construction, dyeing, and/or related crafts. The Department of Theatre and Dance typically produces 10-12 productions per academic year supported by the costume studio. All renewable contract assistant professors are expected to engage in service/academic citizenship appropriate to their area and expertise. Additionally, they are expected to maintain a good level of performance in the classroom and/or other appropriate instructional settings and to contribute to the overall instructional effectiveness of the academic programs in which they have assigned duties. This position will not be expected to prepare or publish original scholarship. Load will consist of time divided amongst designing and building costumes, overseeing student work in the costume shop, and teaching design and tech courses for the Department.
Minimum requirements: Master of Fine Arts degree, experience designing and building costumes for dance, minimum 2 years' experience working in a costume studio with multiple projects, and evidence of advanced patternmaking and construction skills to include flat pattern, draping, costume construction, tailoring, dyeing, and crafts. Record of successful teaching at the college and/or university level. Candidates should demonstrate a clear commitment to inclusive pedagogical approaches, and a record of work using diverse and collaborative perspectives. Professional experience is highly desirable. Good communication and organizational skills are imperative, as several productions will be in process at the same time.
