Position Summary

The Department of Large Animal Clinical Sciences (LCS) at the Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine (MSU CVM) is seeking applicants to fill a Health Programs (HP) position in Food Production Medicine at the Assistant Professor level. The successful candidate will teach clinical skills to final year DVM students. The position is for a part-time (with the potential of up to 50%) Assistant Professor, Health Programs, one year (12 month) appointment. The appointment percentage will be assigned based on the needs of the department and successful candidate.

The successful candidate will provide clinical instruction to students participating in food animal medicine, surgery, and production animal clerkships with an emphasis on building critical analytical skills. The ability to work with students and provide a welcoming and scholarly environment is essential. We are looking for someone who enjoys teaching and interacting with students for all disciplines in the profession. The right candidate will be committed to ensuring all students in the DVM curriculum are competent in introductory food animal medicine and surgery, a commitment to evidence-based practice of veterinary medicine, a commitment to one-health (interface of human-animal-environmental health), and always interacts in a professional manner with students, veterinarians, clients and colleagues.

LCS faculty have access to state-of-the-art facilities and equipment, including analytical core facilities and cyber-infrastructure for advanced data analytics. LCS's dairy faculty are part of the MSU dairy team that includes faculty in the Department of Animal Science and MSU Extension Educators. The team promotes and supports the growth of the Michigan Dairy industry, one of the most progressive in the U.S. and the world. Michigan has the greatest milk production per cow and the lowest average somatic cell count per cow in the country.

Required Degree

Doctorate -Veterinary Medicine

Minimum Requirements

Doctorate - Veterinary Medicine (DVM, VMD, BVSc or equivalent) Licensed to practice in State of Michigan (academic license option exists)

Desired Qualifications

MS, PhD. Applicants should have experience in veterinary practice and relevant clinical skills. Prior experience teaching or mentoring DVM students interested in food animal practices would be desirable.
