Position Description

Primary Purpose and Essential Functions

The University of the Pacific, Department of Health and Exercise Science seeks applicants to fill two (2) full-time, tenure-track, Assistant Professor positions in Exercise Science scheduled to begin Fall semester of 2024.

The successful candidates are expected to teach and conduct original research in their area of expertise, assist in program development, and engage in professional, departmental, and university activities. Main responsibilities:

  • Teach courses in exercise physiology, wellness, nutrition and metabolism and other areas according to candidate expertise, and also participate in the university wide general education program. Standard teaching load is five courses per year.
  • Members of the faculty are expected to teach in the University wide general education program, including the CORE Seminars, and contribute to the interdisciplinary nature of departmental curriculum.
  • In addition to teaching a range of courses within Health and Exercise Sciences, the successful candidate will teach in the College's first-year seminar program, develop general education courses with broad appeal, and collaborate on student-centered scholarly activity.
  • Successful applicants should demonstrate capability to engage in research, and willingness to supervise undergraduate and graduate research.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with evidence of successful teaching at the college level, demonstrated ability to successfully teach a diverse student body; and/or who have a demonstrated ability to infuse diversity into their teaching, an active research agenda, a record of scholarly publication, and participation in professional organizations.

    The College of the Pacific is hiring across multiple fields and seeks to bring in a cohort of new faculty to build upon and elevate our existing interdisciplinary focus areas: Environment and sustainability; Law and policy; Physical and mental health and wellness; Communications, art and design. The successful candidate in Health and Exercise Sciences will be able to collaborate with colleagues to further develop student-centered programs in one or more of those interdisciplinary areas. Our faculty are dedicated teachers, mentors and advisors who value collaboration and who develop innovative pedagogies to enhance student learning in addition to engaging actively in scholarship and service.     The College is conducting searches for tenure-track assistant professors in Biological Sciences; Communication. Health and Exercise Sciences; Media X (multimedia design and production); Psychology; and Sociology.     Minimum Qualifications

  • Earned Doctorate in Exercise Physiology, Exercise Sciences, Kinesiology or related field relevant to required area of specialization by time of appointment (ABD considered with established defense date).

    Work Environment/Work Week/Travel: Work schedule is dependent on department need.

    Hiring Range $72,000 - $75,000 per year. We consider factors such as, but not limited to, scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's qualifications, internal equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. Special Instructions
