The School of Art at Montana State University invites applications for a
tenure-track position for Assistant Professor of Graphic Design. Each faculty
member will teach and advise undergraduate and graduate student in the School
of Art; maintain an active and peer-recognized professional practice of
client-initiated or self-initiated design projects and/or academic research;
and participate in ongoing curricular development, as well as department,
college, and university governance.

The School of Art at Montana State University seeks to broaden its design
education offering. We seek a full time faculty member in Graphic Design at
the rank of Assistant Professor, who has potential for excellence in design
thinking in an environment beyond print. The BFA degree in Graphic Design at
MSU is a four-year undergraduate program that is nationally accredited by
NASAD with an emphasis on the development of critical thinking and the
professional design skills necessary for employment within the creative

Duties and Responsibilities
Teaching and Advising – preparation and delivery of undergraduate courses,
senior capstone courses; curricular advising, career advising/mentoring
Professional Practice and Scholarly Research
Service and Outreach – departmental, college and university committees and

MFA or MDes in graphic design or appropriate related field.
Experience in typography, layout design and conceptual problem solving.
Experience using Adobe Creative Cloud software in a Mac environment.
Current professional practice in the field of graphic design and/or a record of scholarly creative work.
Preferred Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
The preferred candidate has experience in ONE OR MORE of the following areas:
UI /UX Design for Web and Mobile
Design for the Outdoor Recreation Market
Advertising Design/Art Direction
Motion Graphics/Digital Animation
Digital Publishing/Publication Design
Digital Illustration/Digital Manipulation
Excellent communication skills, including the ability to explain and communicate detailed information both verbally and in writing.
Record of professional accomplishments.
Prior teaching experience at the college or university level. # Experience with curriculum development.
Demonstrated commitment to working with and engaging diverse students and colleagues within and outside the school.

particularly in our graphic design program. Our art students and our
curriculum are inclined toward creative problem solving and entrepreneurial
thinking. The School of Art faculty comprise a group of enthusiastic
practitioners and thinkers, with expertise in publication design, letterpress,
typography, screen-printing, web design, illustration, digital imaging,
advertising and design history. The program emphasizes critical thinking
skills and practical experience in both traditional and digital media.
Within the School of Art, there are approximately 350 students majoring in
studio art, design (BFA), art education and art history (BA) and a
graduate program in Fine Arts (MFA). All programs are accredited by the

The College of Arts and Architecture is home to distinctive academic programs
