The Department of Geography and Environmental Studies (GES) invites applications from qualified candidates for a tenure-track appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor, effective July 1, 2023, or January 1, 2024, depending upon availability of the candidate and is subject to budgetary approval.
The successful candidate will demonstrate primary expertise in spatial information science, geomatics, or spatial data and big data science, in a subdiscipline of geography which can include Earth systems science, climate change science and adaptation, environment and resources, urban, economic, or health and wellness geography.
The ideal candidate will be expected to contribute to teaching and research across sub-disciplines in geography and environmental studies and must be prepared to instruct Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and supervise at the undergraduate and graduate level. We seek a candidate who can lead the modernization of our GIS courses at the graduate and undergraduate level and collaborate with faculty to contribute to the broad research mission and focus of the department. Applicants are expected to possess a PhD in geography, or a closely related discipline, at the time of appointment. Candidates must share evidence of a commitment to teaching, be committed to working across sub- disciplinary boundaries and creating a culture of inclusion, as well as a dedication to professional development and scholarship. Teaching responsibilities may be multicampus with course delivery at Waterloo, Brantford, and Milton campuses.
