Position Title Assistant Professor, Foundations, Literacy and Leadership - ESL

Job Description Summary

Tenure track faculty position in the Department of Education – Foundations, Leadership and Literacy, with emphasis in teacher preparation for English Learner (EL) and Bilingual Education (teaching of emergent bilinguals).

Responsibilities

Responsible to model the University Mission through dedicated job performance, service excellence to constituencies, respectful collaboration and active support of the University's Mission in Catholic and Lasallian higher education.

-Teach courses in various formats that prepare pre-service and in-service teachers and other education professionals to work with emergent bilinguals, within the College of Education and Social Sciences -Support the Program Director in the development of new and revision of existing EL/Bilingual courses. -Advise students pursuing a Master's in Curriculum & Instruction/EL or Bilingual Education, as well as students pursuing an EL or Bilingual Endorsement -Supervise and grade comprehensive exams for graduate students. -Support Program Director in managing external partnerships and relationships that serve to support and grow the enrollment for graduate literacy programs. -Collaborate to develop an effective student experience for students. -Maintain current and active knowledge in EL/Bilingual content areas that is reflected in instruction and course development. -Assist in the collection of key assessments, data analysis, and report preparation for program accreditation -Communicate professionally, relate well, and share a passion for post- secondary success for diverse learners. -Engage in an active research agenda -Engage in service to the university and community/profession and participate in department, college, and university committee work -Develop and maintain local community partnerships

Minimum Qualifications

-Earned doctoral degree in El/Bilingual Education, Curriculum and Instruction, Education Policy, Sociology, or Anthropology by position start date. -Minimum of 3-5 years of experience of successful teaching a a setting for El/Bilingual learners -Working knowledge of the requirements for EL/Bilingual endorsement and credentialing -Demonstrated experience with and commitment to working with culturally and linguistically diverse student populations. -Documented successful experience teaching college courses and P-12 classes in the areas of EL, bilingual or dual language education -Experienced and knowledgeable about how to support pre-service and in-service teachers and other education professionals -Technologically savvy, with experience working with different platforms, modalities, and learning management systems. -Demonstrated commitment to promoting diversity, inclusion, and multicultural awareness in educational and work environments, and willingness to contribute to Lewis University's mission

Preferred Qualifications

Proficiency in a language in addition to English.
