Position Description

The Linguistics Program in the Department of English at California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) invites applications for a Tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor (Academic Year) with the appointment starting in Fall 2024.

The Position

The Department of English at CSUDH invites applications for a full time, tenure-track position, Assistant or Associate Professor, who can contribute to our Linguistics B.A. and TESOL M.A. programs. The specific subfield of specialization in linguistics/applied linguistics is open, though priority will be given to scholars interested in sociolinguistics of multilingualism, language in globalization, raciolinguistics and/or minoritized languages/dialects in the U.S., and/or phonetics/phonology, with a strong interest in TESOL. The candidate will teach graduate and undergraduate courses and supervise student research. We prioritize applicants whose research, teaching and/or scholarship in linguistics address or contribute to social justice. We strongly encourage applications from candidates interested in developing and teaching courses that examine minoritized language varieties and their users.

Required Qualifications

  • Applicants must have experience in working with students from diverse age, socioeconomic, cultural, and academic backgrounds.
  • Ph.D. by the time of appointment in linguistics or applied linguistics.
  • A promising research agenda likely to lead to publications in linguistics and/or applied linguistics and/or scholarly teaching of linguistics.
  • Preferred /Desired Qualifications

  • Demonstrated record of excellent teaching for a minimum of two years.
  • Professional experience that demonstrates ability to work with and teach non-traditional students.

    Additional Information

    The Assistant/Associate/ Professor (Academic Year) classification salary range is $5,405 to $11,994 per month (12 monthly payments per academic year); The anticipated hiring salary is $6,700 to $6,850. This position will be commensurate with experience and current CSUDH faculty salaries in the academic department/discipline. Faculty salaries are subject to budgetary authorization and any California State University System faculty contract increases. Summer research grants, moving expenses, start‐up funds, and a reduced teaching load may be available.

    Background Check
