FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT
The Queens College English and Language Arts Secondary Education Program is
designed to prepare teachers as practitioners, leaders, and reformers who
conceptualize literacies as multiple and socially constructed, embrace
difference, and take on the complex challenges and opportunities of the 21st
century as transformative educators. Our focus is not only on enhancing our
candidates' knowledge, skills, and dispositions necessary to teach today's
diverse population of students, but on conceiving of teaching as an act of
social justice. The program offers certification for undergraduates, post-
baccalaureate students through an Advanced Certificate, a combined
certification/masters MAT program, and a stand-alone masters degree. In
collaboration with College Now, the program offers a Youth Participatory
Action Research (YPAR) class to high school students.
Responsibilities : The English Education Program in the Department of
Secondary Education and Youth Services at Queens College is hiring a faculty
member with expertise in secondary English education to teach and lead in our
undergraduate and graduate teaching certification programs. A successful
candidate will have a commitment to social justice and equity overall and
specifically in the field of literacy and English Education and be expected to
maintain a research and scholarship agenda while directing the English
education programs. This position includes committee and department
assignments as well as supervision of the English Education student teachers
and their placements, and responsibility for maintaining accreditation of
these programs. Our future colleague will contribute to the Department, the
Education Unit, and the College's ongoing efforts to respond to the changing
landscape in teacher education while remaining true to our commitment to
public education and our principles of ethics, equity, and excellence.
Earned PhD or EdD, with focus on secondary English education or related field.
Commitment to teaching and research that foregrounds anti-racism, equity,
inclusion, and culturally responsive/sustaining education. Experience as a
successful practitioner in secondary schools as well as demonstrated research
in middle or high schools. The ability to teach successfully in a higher
