FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

The Queens College English Department teaches a wide range of undergraduate
courses to over four thousand students, including over six hundred English
majors. Its MA program serves over one hundred MS Ed and literature students,
and its MFA program in Creative Writing and Translation attracts a select
group of students from across the US. The forty full-time faculty teach and
publish in both traditional and emerging areas within the profession; recent
hires include specialists in composition studies, multilingual education,
drama, creative nonfiction, modernist, Latinx, and Caribbean literatures and
cultures. Nine English Department faculty also teach in the consortial PhD
programs at the CUNY Graduate Center.
In support of the campus mission, strategic plans and values, the English
Department seeks to fill one tenure-track Assistant Professor Vacancy in Early
Modern Studies. The Department invites applications especially from candidates
with interests in the Global Early Modern, Premodern Critical Race Studies,
Indigeneity and the Decolonial, Trans Studies, Eco-criticism and Environmental
Studies, Disability Studies, Gender and Sexuality.
Also required are a record or clear promise of publication, a record of strong
teaching and commitment to teaching a diverse student body, and a demonstrated
commitment to departmental and institutional service.
The selected candidate will teach required courses in the English Major as
well as undergraduate and graduate courses on Shakespeare and Early Modern
drama, literature, and culture, and is also expected to participate in
research and perform advising duties in the English department. The selected
candidate will also share departmental committee responsibilities and take on
other administrative duties if needed.
All candidates with publication and teaching expertise in Early Modern Studies
will be considered, and applications will be assessed in relation to career
Ph.D. in English or related field in hand by time of appointment. Also
required are: the record or clear promise of publication; the ability to teach
successfully, along with a commitment to teaching a diverse student body; and
a commitment to departmental and institutional service.
