The College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) is nationally and internationally known for our translational research. This position will only enhance our reputation further and would expand it to include new approaches. Moreover, use of this position to build the Translational Predictive Biology cluster will strengthen existing faculty with cross-interests in this area and build additional bridges to the College of Engineering (BME/ISE) and the College of Sciences (MATH/STATS).
Essential Job Duties
NC State University is recruiting five faculty to play a central role in building a Center for Translational Predictive Biology. The five incoming faculty are expected to synergize with existing faculty to build an internationally-recognized program focused on developing integrated systems and analytical methods that can predict in vivo responses from in vitro systems. Areas of focus include organoid biology, microanalytical systems (organ-on-chip), drug delivery, and artificial intelligence/machine learning.
As part of this cluster, the Department of Molecular Biomedical Sciences invites applications for a state funded tenure track position at the ASSISTANT PROFESSOR level in DRUG DELIVERY with a strong background in chemistry, pharmaceutics, biomedical engineering or a closely related discipline and an interest in applying their expertise to develop and apply innovative models for predictive pharmacology/biology. Applicants should have experience in one or more of the following areas: predictive models for drug delivery, delivery of large biological therapeutics (proteins and nucleic acids), addressing key challenges in delivery of drugs such as the blood- brain barrier, bioavailability, local targeting, and/or the use of organoid and microphysiological models to understand or improve delivery of therapeutic agents. The applicant should also have a track record of collaborative and interdisciplinary research, and experience, or an interest, in working with multiple animal models (rodents, large animals, humans).
The new faculty member will be expected to establish a successful interdisciplinary research program, and actively participate in the veterinary and/or graduate teaching programs. This position will be ideally poised to complement and collaborate with the pharmacokinetic, pharmacokinetic- pharmacodynamic, and drug disposition expertise of existing faculty, to collaborate with other members of the Translational Predictive Biology cluster and other faculty in the college and university, and to participate in NC State's university-wide Comparative Medicine Institute ( CMI). Joining the College of Veterinary Medicine offers unique access to clinical faculty in a state-of-the-art veterinary hospital as well as outstanding research faculty affiliated with the CVM, the CMI, and other university-wide Chancellor's Excellence Faculty Clusters ( CFEP). The specific teaching requirements will be tailored to the expertise of the individual and the needs of the college.
