About The Position:

The School of Arts & Sciences provides excellence in learning opportunities for all students at SUNY Plattsburgh through a core liberal arts education. We train students who can think critically, have mastered their discipline, can communicate effectively and are broadly educated. The Communication Studies Department believes in a hands-on training approach that begins with our students from day one. Our program strikes a balance between theory and practice, combining traditional education methods with professional training. The duties of this tenure-track position are expected to include: teaching courses such as Fundamentals of Multimedia Production, Basic and Advanced Web Design, Multimedia Storytelling, Video Motion Graphics and Digital Animation Production, though opportunities to teach in one's area of specialty may also be available; conducting academic research and combining it with creative productions; and service to the department, college, and university which may include assigned committee work. As SUNY Plattsburgh is an institution that delivers challenging and high-quality educational experiences to a diverse group of learners, the successful candidate must demonstrate an understanding of and sensitivity to diversity, inclusion, and equity-minded policies, programs, and practices. The successful candidate may be asked to teach courses in a distance learning format.

Required Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Digital Media Production or related field
  • Experience teaching courses in audio/visual production, digital photography, web design, graphic design, animation and/or social media management, content development
  • Demonstrated proficiency in using Adobe Creative Cloud software such as Photoshop, Illustrator, Dreamweaver, After Effects, Audition and Premiere
  • Demonstrated ability to engage productively with students at all skill levels and a commitment to contribute to the development of a vibrant digital media production curriculum
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity and experience promoting inclusive excellence
  • Strong interpersonal, collaborative, and organizational skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and collegially with faculty, staff and administrators
  • Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. or equivalent experience
  • Knowledge of industry standards and experience in media management
  • Evidence of diversity, equity and inclusion work incorporated within one or more of the following areas: class material, scholarly work, professional work, and/or service work
  • Demonstrated familiarity with web design and coding software, web and phone-based design applications and open source digital resources
  • A record of scholarship and/or significant industry experience
