    SUMMARY:

    The Department of Sociology and Criminal Justice is seeking a Tenure-Track Assistant Professor in Criminal Justice. The position will begin in Fall 2022. Areas of specialization are open, but preferred candidates will be prepared to teach: courts, homeland security and/or quantitative methods. Faculty at Texas A&M University-Commerce are required to conduct scholarly activities, work cooperatively with others, and contribute service to their discipline, the university, and the community. Review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled.

    DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Teach undergraduate and graduate level courses in criminology or criminal justice;
  • Design, implement, and publish research;
  • Prepare syllabi;
  • Update course materials;
  • Develop curriculum;
  • Deliver instruction both online and on any of the university campuses. Instructional duties may include teaching during the day, in the evening, or on Saturday.
  • Work collaboratively with faculty and staff to implement departmental programs;
  • Provide service to the department, college, university and public schools, and community;
  • Maintain knowledge and stay abreast of current trends in learning with research, best practices in teaching, and technological applications in the classroom, including online teaching.
  • The successful candidate will be expected to perform service for the profession, university and
  • community, and engage in other scholarly activities appropriate for academics.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Education: Ph.D. in Criminal Justice, Criminology, or closely related discipline with documented specialization in Criminal Justice or Criminology from an accredited institution. ABDs will be considered; however, a Ph.D. must be in hand at the start of the appointment. Those who hold a J.D. only will not be considered.
  • Experience / Knowledge / Skills: Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with a team of professionals. Good written and oral communication skills. Commitment to high quality teaching. Dedication to high standards and student success.
  • Ability to: Multi-task and work well as part of a team. Candidate must demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching, academic research, and service.

  • PREFERRED EDUCATION / SKILLS/ EXPERIENCE:

  • Preference given for candidates who teach: courts, homeland security and/or quantitative methods.
  • College or university teaching experience is preferred but not required. Areas of specialization are open.
  • Preference will be given to applicants who have experience or are willing to teach classes in alternative formats (i.e., online, hybrid, etc.)
  • Preferred candidate will be equipped to assist with developing events, course offerings and curricula that cultivate opportunities for awareness about diversity and that inculcate positive attitudes about inclusion.
