We are seeking an enthusiastic assistant professor of constitutional and administrative law to join the Department of Public Law and Governance (PLG). PLG is a thriving department, where a wide range of legal and social science disciplines are represented and where we conduct high-level research and teaching. Our department has leading scholars working in the fields of constitutional and administrative law, international law, legal theory and philosophy, legal history, and public administration. Job Description Tilburg Law School is looking for an enthusiastic colleague for the position of assistant professor of constitutional and administrative law in the Department of Public Law and Governance.

As an assistant professor, you will teach constitutional and administrative law courses in the English and, in due time, Dutch-language bachelor's and master's degree programs. You will also coordinate courses and supervise students writing their thesis. You will also be expected to contribute to the further development of our educational program, in which you will be supported by, among others, the Tilburg Law School innovation team. In addition to your teaching duties, you will conduct independent academic research in a (sub)field of constitutional and/or administrative law. We are looking for someone whose research agenda offers clear starting points for collaboration within the department and within the Signature Plan Global Law and Governance, a research vision that engages our researchers and furthers inter- and crossdisciplinary collaborations. "Rethinking law and governance" and team science are central to this signature plan. The type of research agenda we are looking for is regarded by peers as innovative, it is set within administrative and/or constitutional law, is relevant to international scientific debates and is socially engaged. Within PLG and Tilburg Law School you will also have the opportunity to gain experience with management tasks and the (daily) supervision of PhD candidates.

  • A PhD degree (or have a defense date planned) in Constitutional and / or Administrative Law (completed or thesis submitted);
  • Several high quality (international) publications in the field of constitutional and administrative law;
  • A research agenda that allows for collaborations with the department and the Signature Plan Global Law and Governance;
  • Experience with teaching and ideally also coordinating courses;
  • A University Teaching Qualification (UTC) or is willing to obtain one within a reasonable period of time;
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work in teams and make themselves visible in (international) research networks;
  • Command of the English language at a professional level (C1), and preferably Dutch, or the intention to learn Dutch within a reasonable period of time;
  • A flexible attitude, takes initiatives and is enthusiastic;
  • The ability to contribute to an open and inclusive organizational culture;
  • Demonstrated personal leadership: you take responsibility for your work and career and possess a good level of self-knowledge;

    For this position, we offer:

  • A position based on 0.8 - 1.0 FTE (32-40 hours per week);
  • This is a vacancy for a permanent position in accordance with Article 2.3 paragraph 1 CLA for Dutch universities and concerns a temporary employment contract with the prospect of permanent employment. You will initially be given a temporary employment contract for the duration of 12 (internal candidates) or 18 months (external candidates). After this period you can get a permanent employment contract.
  • A salary of minimum €3,974 and maximum €5,439 gross per month for full time employment, based on UFO profile Assistant Professor 2 and salary scale 11 of the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities. Tilburg University uses a neutral remuneration system for salary scaling that is based on relevant education and work experience;
  • Vacation allowance (8%) and a year-end bonus (8.3%);
  • Vacation days (41 days for a 40-hour work week);
  • Full reimbursement of commuting expenses for sustainable travel: walking, biking and public transportation
  • Options Model for benefits and reimbursement of moving expenses;
  • Employees from outside the Netherlands may be eligible for a tax-free allowance of 30% of their taxable wages. We will apply for this reimbursement for you;
  • You will be enrolled in the General Pension Fund for Public Employers (ABP) through us;
