Job Summary

Eastern Washington University invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor position in Computer Engineering to begin September 2022.

Eastern Washington University is a midsize regional, comprehensive institution offering high-quality liberal arts and professional undergraduate and graduate programs in Cheney, Spokane, and elsewhere in Washington State. The Spokane metropolitan area is home to over 400,000 diverse residents and offers great four-season outdoor recreational opportunities and a vibrant arts and cultural community.

The position is housed in the College of STEM, in the Department of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering (CSEE), where we offer academic programs leading to ABET-accredited Bachelor of Science degrees in Electrical and Computer Engineering, as well as in Computer Science.

The Electrical and Computer Engineering program is supported by 8 faculty members and serves roughly 100 undergraduate students. In Fall 2020, the CSEE department moved from the main campus in Cheney to a new 140,000 square-foot facility in downtown Spokane's University District (however, first year students still take classes in the main campus in Cheney). This facility is a public-private partnership with the regional tech industry to create a high- tech hub for innovation and entrepreneurship. It will offer our students and faculty outstanding new opportunities for collaboration with regional industry and other universities. Through teaching and research, the successful candidate will capitalize on the creative and intellectual opportunities made possible through these partnerships.

Candidates from all areas of Computer Engineering will be considered; however, preference may be given to candidates with background in high performance reconfigurable hardware (FPGA, PSoC, etc.), IoT security, or embedded systems. Candidates should have a demonstrated potential or record for effective teaching and outstanding research at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. If pertinent, student evaluations may be requested at the time of interview.

Candidates must demonstrate interest, experience and/or ability to apply a culturally responsive and flexible approach that is supportive to diverse needs, including universal accessibility, of our students, faculty, staff and the public.

EASTERN WASHINGTON UNIVERSITY is committed to increasing the diversity of its faculty, staff, students and academic program offerings and to strengthening sensitivity to diversity throughout the institution. Eastern Washington University is an affirmative action/equal opportunity employer, and applications from members of historically underrepresented groups are especially encouraged. SPECIAL ACCOMMODATIONS: Eastern strives to satisfy all requests for special access needs for persons with disabilities. Requests for such accommodations are welcome and may be made by calling Human Resources at: (509) 359‐2381.
