Founded in 1910 and located in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, Mount Royal
University grew into a vibrant college in the 1930s and became a mid-sized

Mount Royal University is located in the traditional territories of the

and the Iyarhe Nakoda. We are situated on land where the Bow River meets the

About the Department of Child Studies and Social Work
The Bachelor of Child Studies program is housed within the Department of Child
Studies and Social Work, in the Faculty of Health, Community and Education.
With a progressive approach to studies that focuses on children and youth,
Mount Royal University's distinctive four-year program emphasizes experiential
learning in early learning and child and youth care. The program provides a
theoretical foundation and valuable hands-on learning opportunities in and
outside the classroom. Going beyond traditional program offerings, the
Bachelor of Child Studies focuses on creating experienced, well-rounded
graduates who are prepared to become strong advocates for children, youth and
families, or pursue further education at a graduate school level. Mount Royal
University is proud to deliver the only four-year Bachelor of Child Studies
degree in Western Canada. The degree offers two majors; child and youth care
counsellor and early learning and childcare. Our Faculty provides a teaching

About the Role
The Child Studies program within the Department of Child Studies and Social
Work, Faculty of Health, Community and Education at Mount Royal University
invites applications for two Tenure Track positions which will commence July
The Department currently offers a degree in Child Studies with majors in Child
and Youth Care Counsellor and Early Learning and Child Care. The successful
applicant must have previous post-secondary teaching experience and be
qualified to teach courses within the first two years of the Child and Youth
Care Counsellor major as well as senior courses in the degree, have knowledge
and familiarity with anti-bias curriculum, design and practice, and Indigenous

Have a proven commitment to decolonization and Equity, Diversity and
Inclusion practice including knowledge and experience of working with
Preference will be given to applicants of Indigenous or other racialized groups, as well as other priority populations,

Preference will also be given to candidates who have an emerging record of publications directly related to child and youth care practice.
Be required to have a minimum of 5 years of direct experience as a
practicing child and youth care counsellor (or equivalent).
Use a trauma-informed approach to teaching and student support.
Qualifications include a completed Masters degree in Child and Youth Care or
related discipline. Preference will be given to candidates with a completed or
near completed PhD in Child and Youth Care or related discipline. The
successful candidate should have relevant undergraduate teaching and
professional experience, and experience in child and youth care. Applicants
must either be a current member of the Child and Youth Care Association of
Alberta with certification being an asset, and be eligible to register as a
child and youth care counsellor with the Association of Counselling Therapists
New faculty are hired into one of two work patterns. The
teaching/scholarship/service pattern (TSS) has a focus on teaching with the
requirement that the faculty member be involved in a research program as well
as service to the Mount Royal community. The teaching/service pattern (TS)
has a focus on teaching and service only.
