Primary Purpose of the Position

The Faculty of Business seeks a nine-month tenure-track Assistant Professor or Associate Professor of Accounting in the College of Arts, Sciences, Business, and Education. The start date for this position is August 2022. Job responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses; serving as a faculty advisor; mentoring and coaching students inside and outside of the classroom; producing scholarly research that results in publications in peer-reviewed journals or books within the discipline or allied field area or within peer-reviewed journals that promote the teaching and learning of the discipline; facilitating presentations at well-respected professional conferences; engaging in the procurement of extramural funds with interdisciplinary teams; participating in departmental, the College, and university service as well as engaging in service to one's professional discipline and the larger Winston-Salem, Forsyth County, and North Carolina community. Candidates for the associate level should also have a strong research record and the ability to participate in curriculum development.

The Faculty of Business seek exceptional candidates who demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching accounting to undergraduate students from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds. The following qualifications and skills are required for this position:

  • Must possess a terminal degree in accounting or a related discipline from an AACSB accredited institution and from a regionally accredited four-year institution of higher education.
  • Must possess knowledge of current accounting standards and CPA evolution plans.
  • Must possess a background in auditing.
  • Must illustrate an ability to leverage various technologies that engage students in the learning process.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to mentor undergraduate students in research experiences or demonstrate experience engaging students in study abroad, internship opportunities, or community service learning.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to participate in interdisciplinary teaching and research collaborations with professional colleagues at the university, across universities, or within the broader public.
  • Must provide evidence of procuring extramural funds and sponsored research that supports an active research agenda.
  • Must illustrate their commitment to their professional growth and development via engagement in professional organizations and professional conferences.
  • Must demonstrate evidence of supporting an accounting program with achieving or sustaining AACSB accreditation.
  • Candidates with strong backgrounds in data analytics are also desired. Candidates must possess effective written and verbal communication skills and they must illustrate effective interpersonal skills.

  • Individuals who possess relevant professional accounting experience and/or professional certification.
  • Individuals with backgrounds in accounting information systems.
  • Ideal candidates should have a strong background in data analytics.

    Faculty seek a committed and engaged faculty member who will perform specific duties at a high level. These duties include but are not limited to the following:

    Teaching and Advising

  • The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate courses in accounting and his or her allied field primarily face-to-face but should have the ability to teach online and hybrid courses.
  • The successful candidate must construct detailed course syllabi.
  • The ideal candidate will facilitate high-quality, engaging instruction.
  • The ideal candidate will leverage various technologies (e.g., Canvas, EAB Navigate) to communicate regularly with students, monitor student progress, and provide feedback on student success outcomes.
  • The successful candidate must engage with students during mandatory office hours each week.
  • The ideal candidate will serve as an academic advisor.
  • The ideal candidate will work collaboratively to enhance the accounting curriculum and create innovative co-curricular programs.
  • Scholarship, Research, and Creative Activity

  • The ideal candidate must have an explicit research agenda.
  • The ideal candidate must produce scholarly research that results in publications in peer-reviewed journals in the accounting discipline or yields publications focused on the teaching and learning of accounting in higher education.
  • The ideal candidate must facilitate presentations at well-respected local, state, national, and international professional conferences and meetings within the discipline.
  • The ideal candidate should engage in procuring sponsored research with interdisciplinary teams.
  • University, Professional, and Community Service and Engagement

  • Attend consistently departmental and College meetings.
  • Serve on departmental-level committees.
  • Serve on College- and university-level committees.
  • Maintain membership in discipline-specific professional organizations.
  • Assist discipline-specific professional organizations with reviews of conference proposals, peer-reviewed journal articles, and other professional engagement opportunities.
  • Serve on community-oriented committees, boards, and commissions relative to accounting.
