Organizational Unit Overview
The Department of Kinesiology is one of six academic units in the College of
Health and Human Performance offering seven degree programs: BS in Exercise
Physiology, BS in Health Fitness Specialist, BS in Physical Education, BS in
Sports Studies, MAEd in Physical Education, MS in Kinesiology and a PhD in
Bioenergetics and Exercise Science, with near 1300 majors and over 35 full
time faculty. Our internationally known faculty are collaborative,
interdisciplinary, and successful in both extramural funded research and
innovative teaching. They enthusiastically engage our students in and out of
the classroom through interactive lectures, research collaboration, community
service projects, as well as other activities. Our distinct research labs
support our academic programs as well as provide opportunities for faculty and
student research. Faculty and students conduct research in fields related to
Exercise Physiology, Cellular Physiology, Biomechanics and Motor Control,
Adapted Physical Education, Sport and Exercise Psychology, Sport Management,
The Department of Kinesiology, within the College of Health and Human
Performance at East Carolina University, seeks to fill a nine-month, tenure-
track faculty position to begin August 2022. The successful candidate is
expected to develop/further enhance a nationally recognized research program
with a focus on disparities or on issues within diverse populations and pursue
external funding that complements current department research strengths. The
candidate is also expected to teach in an area of their expertise within a
content area in Kinesiology. The successful candidate will be expected to
demonstrate a previously established and continuing commitment to diversity,
equity, and inclusion research, engagement and teaching. They will broaden
participation among members of underrepresented groups, integrate diverse
experiences and multiple perspectives as the foundation for a rich learning
experience and will provide leadership to meet the needs of diverse learning
styles, populations and intellectual interests.
The successful candidate will 1) maintain a strong publication record, 2)
develop or currently have an externally funded research program with a focus
on disparities or on issues within diverse populations, 3) have the potential
for, or a record of, teaching at the college level, including online or hybrid
formats, in support of the Department's educational mission, 4) provide
mentoring for graduate students in our PhD program or one of the
concentrations in the Department's master's degree program, 5) provide
professional service to the university, community and profession, and 6)
promote diversity, equity, and inclusion.

A doctoral degree in Kinesiology or a closely related field is required (such
as but not limited to Human Performance, Exercise Science, Movement Studies,
Bioenergetics, Sport Psychology Sport Management, and Physical Education).
License or Certification Required by Statute or Regulation
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education
Preference will be given to candidates whose research, teaching and service
complement existing faculty strengths in Adapted Physical Education,
Bioenergetics, Biomechanics, Exercise Physiology, Motor Control, Physical
Activity and its promotion, Sport Psychology, Sport Management, diseases
affecting the human condition, and Behavioral Science.
Relevant post-doctoral training or job experience related and a clear
potential for, or demonstrated experience in, teaching and supervising
undergraduate and graduate students, including students from diverse
backgrounds, will also be preferred.
