The Office of Undergraduate Admission seeks to recruit the most academically
and personally distinguished students who will contribute to the diversity of
the undergraduate population.
Position Summary
The Assistant or Sr Assistant Dean for Pell Eligible & First-Gen Recruitment
will participate in all aspects of the college admission cycle including
contributing to office-wide efforts to recruit the most academically and
personally distinguished students who will contribute to the diversity of the
university's undergraduate population. Incumbents should also have an interest
in equity and access to education and will be a key contributor to diversity
and access recruitment initiatives.
The incumbent will play a primary role in partnering with the State Council of
Higher Education in Virginia (SCHEV) and the Virginia Department of
Education (VDOE) in support of efforts for increasing enrollment of Pell
Grant-eligible and first-generation college students.
Flexibility exists for the position to be based on-campus in Williamsburg, VA,
or regionally located in Richmond, VA, or the northern Virginia/DC
metropolitan area.
Specific responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
Representing the university in a variety of settings; evaluating
applications and participating in the admission committee process.
Managing a particular geographic territory for purposes of prospect
cultivation and application review.
Conducting group information sessions for prospective students and
families, and organizing recruitment and yield events aimed at increasing
diversity on and off campus.
Serving as a key member of the diversity and access team, participating in
event programming and communication campaigns.
Partnering with the W&M School of Education and other campus partners who
host on-campus pre-collegiate programs.
Reading and evaluating applications for admission including being
responsible for one or more geographic regions.
Conducting information sessions and responding to questions regarding the
admission process and student experience at William & Mary.
Serving as a public relations and information resource to prospective
applicants, secondary or university personnel, professional organizations,
students, parents, and alumni.
Developing and implementing diversity outreach programs and strategies for
recruitment of high-achieving students in local and regional communities,
including underrepresented students.
Developing programs and efforts to cultivate and maintain relationships
with secondary school personnel, professional organizations, community-
based organizations, prospective students, parents, and alumni.
Analyzing needs, developing, and managing admission programs and
processes, and participating in the continuing evaluation of State Council
of Higher Education for Virginia (SCHEV) policies and procedures.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution or an equivalent
combination of training, education, and/or experience.
Prior experience, typically two or more years of admissions or related
professional experience.
General knowledge of college and university programs, majors, admission
requirements, and processes.
Demonstrated proficiency in social media platforms, and Microsoft Office:
Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Demonstrated ability to effectively organize, prioritize, and navigate
multiple projects providing a high level of attention to detail and
accuracy.
Demonstrated ability to provide excellent customer service utilizing a
high level of interpersonal and communication skills, cultural sensitivity
towards students from a diverse range of backgrounds, and the ability to
articulate the value of attending a highly selective, liberal arts
institution to varied constituencies.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing,
and to accurately disseminate information to a diverse population of
faculty, staff, and students.
Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively as a team
member utilizing a high level of interpersonal skills.
Interest in equity and access to education as a key contributor to
diversity and access recruitment initiatives.
In addition to the above, the Senior Assistant Dean Level requires:
Several years (typically four or more years) of professional experience
working in college admissions or a directly related field.
Considerable knowledge of college and university programs, majors,
admission requirements, and processes.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience at a selective liberal arts & sciences college/university.
Previous experience supervising student volunteers, serving in a
leadership capacity within student organizations, and/or event programming
experience.
Experience working in an admissions or college-counseling office,
including as a student or volunteer.
In addition to the above, the Senior Assistant Dean Level prefers:
Previous experience participating in diversity and access student
recruitment initiatives and/or community outreach efforts.
Membership and active involvement in relevant professional organizations.
Experience developing and collaborating programming for underserved
students such as first-generation and Pell-eligible students.
Advertised Pay Range $51,000 - $62,600, Assistant Dean Level; $55,000 -
$69,600 Senior Assistant Dean Level; commensurate with experience,
qualifications, and locality.

Conditions of Employment
Flexibility exists for the position to be based on-campus in Williamsburg,
VA, or regionally located in Richmond, VA, or the northern Virginia/DC
metropolitan area.
As part of recruitment responsibilities, this position requires individual
travel (driving) as well as group travel (driving), including evenings
and travel in congested/heavy-traffic situations.
Must be able to maintain a valid Driver's License.
Occasional overnight travel is required.
This position may require additional work hours beyond the typical week,
including evening and/or weekend work as needed, to meet the business
needs of the operation.
