Position Summary

UIW is seeking candidates for the position of Assistant or Associate Professor of Music Therapy beginning August 2022. The successful candidate will serve as the coordinator of the music therapy program.

Full-time faculty at UIW are expected to teach four courses in the fall semester and four courses in the spring semester. In all matters, faculty are expected to maintain the highest standards of professional ethics consistent with the UIW Mission.

This position is considered a “Responsible Employee” under Title IX federal regulations and “Mandatory Reporter” under Texas state law and the UIW Sexual Misconduct Policy. As a Mandatory Reporter, this position requires you as the employee to promptly report any incident that you witness or receive information about violating Title IX. These reporting responsibilities are set out in the UIW Sexual Misconduct Policy.

Essential Functions

Official duties and responsibilities of faculty members at the University include teaching, scholarship, service and professional activities.

Administer, organize, and supervise all aspects of the Music Therapy program.

Serve as the primary instructor in the program, teaching courses, supervising part-time faculty, assigning part-time faculty course loads.

Coordinate and supervise clinical practicums and internships.

Recruit, advise, and mentor students in the program, providing individual help to students during weekly office hours.

Perform regular scholarly research and publication.

Assist with development and implementation of a Master's of Music Therapy program.

Provide service to the department, college, university, community, and profession.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of the policies and standards of the AMTA and of NASM.

Knowledge of the curriculum and pedagogy related to clinical practicums and internships.

Ability teach primary courses in the Music Therapy curriculum.

Ability to build relationships with local health organizations and school systems to procure and maintain sites for clinical practicums, internships, and to oversee the operation of the Music Therapy Services Center.

Proficiency in use of instructional technology;

Desire to collaborate with department faculty and students;

Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures.

Employee shall adhere to all applicable rules and regulations of the University, the Conference, and the NCAA.

Required Education

Ph.D. in Music Therapy or related field. ABD will be considered.

Required Work Experience

None specified.

Preferred Qualifications

Teaching experience in music therapy at the university level and experience with coordinating a music therapy program.

Experience with overseeing the development a Master's program in Music Therapy.

Active membership in AMTA.

Required Certifications, Licenses or Registrations

Must be Board Certified (MTBC),
