General Statement

The Gianforte School of Computing, housed in the Norm Asbjornson College of Engineering, invites applications for three full-time tenure-track positions at the level of Assistant or Associate Professor with primary responsibilities in research, teaching and service/outreach. The successful candidate will become an integral part of the Computer Science program. Duties will include developing a nationally recognized, externally funded research program, teaching and developing courses consistent with the candidate's background and participating in professional/service activities.

Duties and Responsibilities

Develop a nationally recognized, externally funded research program; produce scholarly works; contribute to Computer Science undergraduate and graduate instruction, mentoring and advising; and participate in professional/service/outreach activities.

Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills

  • Ph.D. in Computer Science or Cybersecurity or a related field upon start date.
  • Potential to build a nationally-recognized, externally-funded research program.
  • Evidence of scholarly and professional achievements commensurate with experience.

  • Research and teaching expertise that enhances our organization's capabilities and strengths, especially in the area of cybersecurity and data science. We also encourage applications from candidates whose research and teaching expertise complement existing faculty expertise.
  • Ability to work with and engage diverse students and colleagues within and outside the Computer Science program. Ability to promote the advancement of diversity and inclusion in computer science.

    The Program The Department

    The Gianforte School of Computing, housed in the Norm Asbjornson College of Engineering, offers PhD, MS, BS and BA degrees in Computer Science. Approximately 500 BS students, 25 MS students and 25 PhD students are supported by 16 full time faculty. Due to the pervasive nature of computing, our collaborators come from a wide range of academic departments, campus research centers and industry. We are on an exciting growth trajectory that enabled us to transition from a Computer Science Department into a School of Computing in Fall 2016. We anticipate continuing growth as computing becomes increasingly instrumental to the success of the university's research enterprise and to the region's burgeoning industry.

    The College

    The Norm Asbjornson College of Engineering comprises five academic units – Chemical & Biological Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electrical & Computer Engineering, the Gianforte School of Computing, and Mechanical & Industrial Engineering, and is home to the Center for Biofilm Engineering (CBE), Western Transportation Institute (WTI), Montana Microfabrication Facility (MMF), Subzero Science and Engineering Research Facility, Montana Manufacturing Extension Center (MMEC), Montana Engineering Education Research Center (MEERC), and Army and Air Force ROTC Units. The College enrolls approximately 3,700 students and approximately 250 of those students are pursuing PhD or MS degrees through one of the five academic units.

    With a wide array of research programs in progress, college of engineering faculty and students have garnered an impressive number of awards. In recent years, college of engineering students have been recognized with a number of prestigious awards, including two Rhodes Scholarships, a Marshall Fellowship, a Gates-Cambridge Fellowship, and numerous Goldwater scholarships. The college is housed across four buildings, including Norm Asbjornson Hall, a platinum- LEED certified building that opened in 2019 and is helping to transform engineering education.
