Bard Graduate Center Assistant Editor

Bard Graduate Center (BGC) seeks an Assistant Editor to join its small publishing team on the production of books, exhibition catalogues and journals as well as digital projects and interpretive materials. This is a full-time (35 hours/week), on-site position at our campus on West 86th Street in New York City.

Reporting to the Managing Editor, the Assistant Editor will provide administrative and editorial support to the publications department. Responsibilities for this new position include assisting with correspondence between authors, editors, indexers, proofreaders, and translators, such as distributing materials for review and collating feedback; copyediting, fact checking, formatting, and proofreading manuscripts and designed layouts; editing institutional ephemera for exhibition-related content; drafting contracts and processing invoices; organizing materials for peer review; supervising student workers; requesting review copies from other publishers for book reviews; submitting new publication data to the Library of Congress, as needed; researching illustrations and obtaining permissions, as needed; and helping with other departmental tasks.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in English, art history, journalism, or a related field.
  • Two to three years of experience in an editorial and/or publishing environment.
  • Working knowledge of the Chicago Manual of Style.
  • Detail oriented and able to multitask.
  • Salary and Benefits: $50,000 – $60,000 with a generous benefits package
