Job Summary/Basic Function
Job Summary: The Assistant Director, Welcome Center is responsible for providing leadership and daily supervision of the daily campus visit program as well as on-campus admission events. Collaborate with staff for implementation and execution of large group, small, targeted visits, and daily and individual visits. Provide leadership for the Tour Guide program (LU Crew), as well as all admission events. Represents the face and spirit of the university by ensuring excellent customer service and quality follow-up and reporting for all perspective Cardinals visitors to the Beaumont Campus. When necessary, assists applicants, students, parent, and members of the public with the admissions process and provide accurate recruitment information. This position reports directly to the Director of Welcome Center.
Job Responsibilities: • Responsible for management and oversight of all on campus visit programs and daily campus visits • Collaborates with Director of Welcome Center to develop on campus visit strategies as well as implementing short and long-term business, operation, and maintenance plans • Evaluate effectiveness of daily visits and campus programs, using data to enhance program offerings and the visit experience • Provide leadership to student staff, ensuring effective visit opportunities for diverse populations of students and parents • Manage and conduct administrative oversight for assigned personnel, delegating tasks and monitoring performance. • Develop standard operation procedures and oversee training of all welcome center personnel and student service areas to give focus on excellence in customer service • Monitor the entire welcome process in order access and provide a quality experience for prospective students and their families. • Maintains competency and professional currency through self-directed professional reading, developing professional contacts with colleagues, attending professional development courses, and attending training and/or courses as requested by Director of Welcome Center • Serve as liaison between the new visitor welcome center and the University community, including the scheduling of use by University departments and organizations • Provide direction and leadership for LU Crew, creating a well-trained core of representatives for the University • Oversee recruitment events and evaluate their effectiveness as a function of yield initiatives, recommending improvements based on visitor experience and feedback • Make recommendations regarding the web site and publications to promote campus visit programs • Work with recruitment marketing manager to develop communication plans as a follow-up to campus visits • Attend various functions that merit Lamar University's attendance (i.e. scholarship award ceremonies) • Performs all other essential duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
Qualifications: • Bachelor's degree required • Valid Driver's license required • Experience speaking to a diverse and varied student populations including low socioeconomic (SES), first generation, and other groups traditionally underrepresented in higher education preferred
Required Knowledge, Skills/Abilities: • Contacts with coworkers from other organizational units of the University • Tact and judgment are requirements in obtaining or giving information of a confidential nature • Comprehensive, practical knowledge of a technical field with use of analytical judgment and decision-making abilities appropriate to the work environment of the organization • Demonstrates ability to manage and supervise • Ability to work and communicate effectively and respectfully with diverse populations • Strong interpersonal skills, creative problem-solving skills, and demonstrated skills in oral and written communication • Presentation and Public Speaking skills
