General Description / Primary Purpose

The Assistant Director Student Financial Aid, under the direction of an Assistant Director or above, assists in the design, development and implementation of departmental processes and/or programs. Recommends policies and procedures to ensure effective coordination of departmental programs.

Essential Duties

Job Function

This position will assist the Director in interpretation of State and Federal regulations related to the management of student financial aid programs and development policies and procedures to ensure compliance. The Assistant Director will be responsible for assisting in the administration of all BOT, DOE, and UNF policies and procedures related to financial aid and development of procedures for awarding and disbursing student financial aid at the university. This position may be asked to advise students, faculty, and staff regarding Federal, State, BOT, DOE, and UNF financial aid policies and procedures. The incumbent will oversee the Scholarship and State Programs. This position reports to the Director of Financial Aid, and is responsible for auditing, evaluating, and monitoring students' financial aid records to determine eligibility for awarding financial aid programs. Performs federal/state mandated audit of parent/student personal financial data. Evaluates students' financial aid files against supporting documents, i.e. parents and student taxable income from federal tax forms, un-taxable income, family household size, number in college, and assets of the family.

Provides supervisory support to the Director of Student Financial Aid in managing the Scholarship and State Program functions. Oversees all Financial Aid processes in the absence of the Director and Associate Director. Processes in-house corrections for the Federal Student Aid Report (includes monitoring problems with the correction process and communicating them to the supervisor.) Determines eligibility for awarding financial aid programs (Federal, State, and Institutional) and resolves over-awards. Participates in the committee deciding validity of scholarship and state program renewal appeal petitions. Oversees administration and processing of all scholarships including institutional, state, federal, and private. Oversees administration and processing of waivers. Manages planning, directing, and reporting of program activity. Has taken full responsibility for administering $1.1 million annually in MedNexus scholarships awards including preparing BOG reports.

Required Qualifications

A Master's degree from a regionally accredited college or university in a directly related area of specialization and two years of experience directly related to the job functions; or a Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university in a directly related area of specialization and four years of experience directly related to the job functions.

Departmental Requirements

Master's degree and two years of experience; or a bachelor's degree and four years of experience. This position requires substantial knowledge of the federal financial aid delivery system, as well as a strong background in the everyday use of computers and software applications. The position also requires a person who demonstrates exceptional management and leadership skills while at the same time possessing superior supervisory, communication, and interpersonal skills. The successful candidate must be willing to assimilate into an office of leaders focused on providing student-centered service and a teamwork mentality as the work to better the services that they provide to students and the UNF community on a daily basis.
