Assistant Director of Career Services

McKendree University is seeking a highly motivated individual to serve as an Assistant Director of Career Services at its Lebanon, IL campus.

The Assistant Director of Career Services will provide career advising to students and alumni in the areas of self-assessment, career exploration, internship and job search, graduate school, and other relevant areas. Candidate will manage the internship program; develop and present student workshops; assist with marketing efforts; develop strong relationships with students, employers, faculty, staff, and alumni; serve as the primary administrator of the office's Handshake online job system; and support other relevant areas.

The successful candidate must have excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong attention to detail, and enjoy working with a variety of individuals as part of a collaborative and service-oriented team. Technical aptitude and proficient computer skills are necessary.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide career guidance to students and alumni in the areas of self- assessment, career exploration, internship and job search advising, and graduate school assistance, among other areas. Utilize Focus and TruTalent online assessments during career counseling appointments.
  • Maintain accurate electronic records for the internship program in an efficient manner, communicating with faculty, employers, and students.
  • Help maintain the College Central Network online job and internship database.
  • Aid in locating internship, part-time, and full-time employment opportunities for students and alumni.
  • Support Career Services marketing efforts to students and employers through a variety of methods, both in digital and print mediums.
  • Facilitate various workshops related to major selection, marketing of Career Services, the job search, graduate school, LinkedIn, and other areas.
  • Assist with planning and providing a variety of services and activities sponsored by Career Services.
  • Train and supervise Student Assistants, incorporating them into office functions and special projects.
  • Assist with the career outcomes data collection process.
  • Periodically teach a one credit hour job search/life after graduation course.
  • Serve as liaison for the Regional Business Council Higher Education Collaboration program.
  • Work on assessment-related areas for office.
  • Represent the University during employer visits, job fairs, and other community events in a professional manner.
  • Other duties and committee work are assigned at the discretion of the Director of Career Services.
  • REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • One year of experience in counseling, student services, human resources, education, or related area is preferred.
  • REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Technical aptitude and proficient computer skills are necessary.
  • Time management and multi-tasking abilities are essential.
  • Knowledge of career assessments/interest inventories is preferred.
  • PREFERRED QUALIFICIATIONS:

    Master's degree is strongly preferred.

    WORK HOURS/CONDITIONS:

    Office environment; 40 hours per week, normally 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.; some evening and weekend work.Must be able to sit at a desk for long periods of time, doing computer work as required. Walking across campus for workshops and other special events is necessary, carrying materials up to 30 pounds.
