Position Title: Assistant Director
Department Name: Graduate Advising
Position Reports To: Associate Director, Graduate Advising
FLSA STATUS : Salaried, Exempt
Benefits: The University's comprehensive benefits program
Days & Hours: Monday through Friday, 37.5 hours per week. Standard work
schedule is 9:00 am to 5:30 PM, may be adjusted. Flexible schedule may require
evening and weekend hours during peak periods.
BASIC FUNCTION AND SCOPE OF JOB:
The Assistant Director, Graduate Advising will provide guidance to students
within the schools of accounting and business, collaborate with staff and
faculty to enact retention strategies, participate in campus-wide events, and
serve as an integral part of the department's mission and student's
professional and academic growth.

Build a partnership with a caseload of advisees to clarify their personal,
academic, and career goals and articulate expectations of advisor-advisee
relationship
Develop a path to degree completion and implement goal-setting strategies
Conduct appointments via web conference and phone
Manage communications with advisees via email and text according to
established timelines and the departmental communication plan
Coach students regarding degree options and academic standing,
continuously monitoring their success
Maintain timely and accurate client case notes and records in Salesforce
Gain a thorough understanding of course prerequisites, degree equivalents,
degree requirements, and University policies to effectively coach students
with regard to program and course selection
Respond immediately to at-risk cases, making appropriate referrals to
campus support services and resources (i.e. counseling, career planning,
tutoring, disability services) and consulting with the departmental
directors as needed
Utilize Colleague to update academic records, process transfer credits and
course substitutions, conduct registration transactions, and process
program changes
Customize advising sessions based on the unique needs of each student,
applying understanding, compassion, strength-based coaching and competence
when working with individuals from diverse backgrounds
Apply conflict management and conflict resolution skills when working with
dissatisfied clients
Collaborate with relevant faculty, staff, and administrators for academic
updates and to ensure satisfactory academic progress for all assigned
students
Develop and facilitate workshops to foster student's professional
development and support academic success and retention
Provide opportunities to engage (special) populations (i.e. veterans
and international students) and accommodate their unique academic
requirements
Collaborate with key departments across campus to enhance student services
and the student experience
Assist with implementing retention strategies for students
Participate in assessment efforts to gauge the department's performance
Develop and maintain in-print and electronic resources and publications
Attend recruitment, outreach, and campus activities such as Student
Success Orientation and Commencement
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and/or Experience:
Master's degree or equivalent in a related field; and 1 to 3 years related
experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and
experience. Experience working in a graduate academic setting, in a business
school, with students who are professional working adults, and/or with
international students is preferred.
Qualified candidates need to have the ability to:

students
Understand and be sensitive to the needs of a diverse and non-traditional
population of students
Communicate clearly, concisely and persuasively in oral and written forms.

Work strategically and take initiative
Exercise sound judgment in decision making and problem solving
Manage multiple projects and work assignments within established time
frames
Work independently and collaborate within a team
Work occasionally on weekends and evenings
Demonstrate competence and skills with adopting and learning new
technologies
High proficiency with MS Office and Salesforce with a willingness to
efficiently learn new technologies
