  • Master's degree from an American Library Association-accredited program or equivalent.
  • Five years of progressively responsible experience in collection development, including experience in developing and implementing collection development policies and procedures.
  • Strong supervisory experience, including experience with performance management.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in outreach and promotion, including developing and delivering training programs.
  • Knowledge of current trends, best practices, and new technologies in collection development.
  • Experience in budget development and management.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team and to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and projects.
  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in academic libraries.
  • Experience in negotiating contracts and licensing agreements with vendors and publishers.
  • Experience with assessment of collections and/or collection analysis.
  • Knowledge of open access and scholarly communication issues.
  • Familiarity with emerging trends in library collections, such as demand- driven acquisitions and shared print initiatives.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain positive relationships with stakeholders, including faculty, students, and other library departments.
  • Job Description

    The Assistant Director for Collection Strategies will lead the development and implementation of an access-based, just-in-time model of collection development. This position will coordinate collection activities, including assessment of collections for research and innovation, build partnerships, and foster collaboration across the university. The AD for Collection Strategies will build and maintain relationships with vendors, publishers, and other stakeholders to negotiate favorable terms, secure licensing agreements, and ensure access to high-quality resources.

    Job Duties

  • Establish and maintain operational goals and policies relating to Collections, including managing a transition to an access-based collection development model.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of University Libraries' collection strategy and policies to ensure access to high-quality, relevant, and diverse resources that support the academic needs of the students and faculty.
  • Assess the effectiveness of University Libraries' collections, services, and processes to ensure they are meeting the changing needs of stakeholders.
  • Develop and manage budgets for collection development and ensure that funds are used effectively and efficiently to maximize access to resources.
  • Oversee the management of University Libraries' research collections and ensure they are accessible and discoverable.
  • Supervise the daily operations and activities of staff in the Collections unit, including setting goals and priorities, developing and improving workflows, training, scheduling, and completing annual performance management.
  • Lead outreach efforts to promote the work of the Collections unit across Texas State University, including identifying collaboration opportunities and building relationships with key stakeholders to enhance awareness and education about collections strategies and open access initiatives.
  • Maintain knowledge of current trends, best practices, and new technologies in collection development, and incorporate these into collection strategies.
