Position Summary: The Assistant Director advises on issues related to career planning strategies and advising, and provides coaching assistance. This includes career development/job search strategy planning and monitoring, resume and cover letter critiquing, mock interview feedback, career assessment assistance, and job/internship negotiation assistance. In the Shevet Glaubach Center we assist each student to develop and continually refine a realistic job search strategy/marketing plan for both internship and full-time employment. We actively monitor each student's progress against career aspirations while guiding, assisting and holding students accountable in the achievement of their goals.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Identify and address students' levels of experience and preparedness to determine career planning and/or job readiness, use assessment tools when necessary;
  • Instruct students in methods of career exploration and job and internship search. Identify and discuss career alternatives;
  • Formulate individualized plan of action for job seekers to include developing an effective resume/cover letter, developing interviewing skills through videotaped mock interviews and role playing, and designing job search strategies;
  • Research and compile educational information from the internet, professional trade publications and journals, and government reports/studies to strengthen professional theoretical foundation, industry knowledge and to support existing as well as new programs;
  • Attend professional development workshops to improve coaching and technical skills;
  • Responsible for the creation and delivery of career development workshops/seminars for both large and small groups, along with participating as a team member in special events such as career fairs, open houses and orientations, some of which will occur on evening and weekends;
  • Identify and secure guest speakers and moderate panels for academic and career programs;
  • Serve as liaison between the Shevet Glaubach Center and the University community including deans, advisors, and faculty to discuss employment trends, student concerns, and new programs and seminars;
  • Serve as liaison between the Shevet Glaubach Center and student clubs/organizations.
  • Represent Shevet Glaubach Center at University events to encourage University enrollment and student involvement;
  • Research, create, and edit brochures, flyers, posters, video presentations, newsletters, web content, and listservs, to promote office events and programs; and
  • Promote career panels and seminars tailored to specific interest groups.
  • Experience & Education Background:

  • Master's Degree in Counseling, Business Administration, Psychology, Education, Human Resources, or related major preferred and 1-2 years of Career Development, Counseling, Student Personnel, Human Resources, or equivalent experience. Will consider Bachelor's degree coupled with commensurate experience.
  • Career coaching, assessment, and demonstrable job search plan development expertise.
  • Skills & Competencies:

  • Strong customer focus (ability to listen attentively to students and recruiters and to understand and respond positively to their requests) is required at all times;
  • Proficiency in project management skills, ability to multi task in a fast- paced environment and meet deadlines;
  • An entrepreneurial orientation, proven track record of taking initiative and making things happen (i.e. self-starter);
  • Interact and proactively share information with internal and external contacts where appropriate;
  • Highly proficient with web-based resources, spreadsheet and presentation software required (MS Word, PowerPoint, Outlook and Excel, creative software applications preferred such as Canva, Adobe, etc.);
  • Ability to work under pressure, with the flexibility to respond to changing priorities and fluctuating workloads;
  • Assume responsibility to ensure issues/concerns will be addressed and monitor them through conclusion;
  • Strong organizational work skills, defining tasks, prioritizing assignments, and following through on all projects independently, is able to articulate challenges and proposed solutions with ease;
  • Effectively manage own time and resources;
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and writing skills; and
  • Ability to deal with a university population at all levels.
