Overview

Princeton University seeks a highly knowledgeable and skilled individual to serve as Assistant Dean for Postdoctoral Affairs in the Office of the Dean of the Faculty (ODOF). The Dean of the Faculty has administrative oversight of academic departments and programs and all matters pertaining to the effectiveness and well-being of the faculty and the professional researchers.

Responsibilities

The Assistant Dean for Postdoctoral Affairs reports directly to the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs. This individual serves as the ODOF liaison with the University postdoctoral community of more than 700 postdoctoral researchers. The assistant dean collaborates with academic department administrators on matters related to postdoc appointments in the academic units. As a member of the Academic Affairs team, this position will partner with other members of the ODOF team and work collaboratively with all levels of management to implement ODOF policies and practices.

The assistant dean develops and leads orientation sessions and other resources for new postdocs. They collaborate with campus partners to have strategic portfolio of professional development event offerings for postdocs.

The assistant dean reviews and approves all personnel actions related to postdoc appointments, including initial hires, reappointments, and leaves.

Other duties include:

  • Develops and updates policies related to the postdoc population.
  • Works with the Office of the Provost on data collection and annual reporting regarding the postdoc population.
  • Updates and maintains the ODOF postdoc website.
  • Other special ODOF projects as assigned.
  • Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree required; PhD strongly preferred.
  • Six or more years of professional experience.
  • Demonstrated success in a higher education setting.
  • Excellent customer service skills. Ability to collaborate effectively.
  • Keen sense of attention to detail.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to manage sensitive and confidential issues.
  • Ability to relate and communicate with all levels of management.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-oriented environment.
  • Proficiency with business software and fluency with systems such as OnBase, Cognos and PeopleSoft.
