Position Title Assistant Coach, Soccer Department Soccer FLSA Exempt General Description

This position is responsible for assisting the head coach with planning and organizing all phases of the soccer program. Responsibilities include player development, recruiting, game preparation, and community involvement. Additionally, this position provides leadership and support for the vision and strategies of the head coach.

Essential Job Duties

  • Maintain oversight of program budgets;
  • Assist the head coach with coaching the team;
  • Maintain compliance with all NCAA, ASUN, and university rules, regulations, policies, procedures, and processes;
  • Foster and maintain positive student body and faculty relations with student-athletes;
  • Assist with coaching in a coordinated and planned program of practices and competition;
  • Recruit quality, academically- and athletically-qualified student- athletes;
  • Monitor academic performance and counsel student-athletes relative to academic success, progress, and eligibility, in cooperation with other divisional compliance staff;
  • Participate in public and alumni relations and promotions activities as needed;
  • Assist with cultivating and soliciting donors, as needed;
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
  • Additional Duties

    Other responsibilities will be assigned in an administrative capacity – these may include a community outreach program for student athletes and organizing a program that encourages former athletic alumni to support the department.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to effectively recruit and coach student-athletes while maintaining concern for health and welfare, physical and psychological preparation;
  • Ability to foster and maintain positive, effective relationships with student-athletes, coaching staff, administrators, faculty, staff, parents, and the public;
  • Organizational skills;
  • Ability to interact effectively – both verbally and in written format – with a diverse group of student-athletes, staff, faculty, administrators, parents, and the public;
  • Ability to demonstrate respect for and skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds;
  • Knowledge of and the ability to maintain compliance with NCAA, ASUN, and university rules, regulations, policies, procedures, and processes;
  • Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations governing recruitment, eligibility, and related functions;
  • Ability to operate a PC and standard software programs as related to employment and position-specific activities;
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other divisional staff, coaches, and administrators.
  • Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree is required;
  • Playing and/or coaching experience at the intercollegiate level in soccer is preferred;
  • Experience recruiting quality student-athletes is preferred;
  • Candidates with playing/coaching experience at the intercollegiate level in soccer and that can demonstrate a proven ability to recruit quality student athletes will be given preference;
  • Goalkeeper coaching and playing experience is preferred.

  • CPR certification, renewed annually, is required.
  • USSF D License and/or United Soccer Coaches National Diploma is preferred;
  • Goalkeeping license is preferred.
