    The Department of Civil Engineering in the College of Engineering and Computer Sciences at Marshall University invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor of Civil Engineering in the area of Transportation Engineering. The successful candidate will show a clear potential for creative and independent research that would lead to strong extramurally-funded research and national/international recognition, a commitment to excellence in teaching, and an interest in mentoring and advising both undergraduate and graduate students.

    Position Description. Reporting to the chair of the Department, the position requires teaching, service, and research responsibilities, as well as a terminal degree. The faculty member in this position is required to teach undergraduate and graduate courses (including both lecture and laboratory courses within transportation engineering and related topics); supervise master's thesis and undergraduate projects; pursue scholarly activities (including research in the field, writing and managing grants; and preparing peer reviewed publications); engage in academic mentoring; assist in program assessment and execution of a continuous improvement plan; participate in professional service; and participate in professional activities and organizations. Candidates must have a strong commitment to teaching excellence and laboratory-based instruction at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, and exhibit potential for professional recognition via research and publication in their area of expertise. The position is a 9-month, tenure- track appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor and the salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.

    Background The Department of Civil Engineering offers an ABET-accredited BS in Civil Engineering, and MS in Engineering with majors in Civil and Environmental Engineering and Engineering Management. The Department is part of the College of Engineering and Computer Sciences (CECS) a multi- disciplinary college with a wide range of faculty expertise and interests, and it is housed in the Arthur Weisberg Family Applied Engineering Complex.

    Marshall University is a co-educational public university in Huntington, West Virginia, founded in 1837 and named after John Marshall, the fourth Chief Justice of the United States. Marshall is West Virginia's second-largest university and the oldest public institution of higher learning in the state, tracing its founding to more than 180 years ago. Marshall University has been accredited continuously as an institution of higher learning by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools since 1928. It also has earned and maintains specialized accreditation status with 21 agencies responsible for evaluating and conferring specialty accreditation for educational programs and fields of study such as business, engineering, medicine, pharmacy, psychology, and teacher education speech-language pathology.
