AAMU offers its 6,100-student population a wide range of course offerings
under the College of Agriculture, Life and Natural Sciences; College of
Business and Public Affairs; College of Education, Humanities and Behavioral
Sciences and College of Engineering, Technology and Physical Science. The
School of Graduate Studies serves about 1,400 and offers doctoral degree
programs in Applied Physics, Food Science, Plant/Soil Science and
This position is in the Department of Social Sciences which includes History,
Political Science, Sociology, and Criminal Justice. It is a full-time, 9-month
appointment. The rank and tenure-status of the position is negotiable based on
qualifications. The area of specialization is open but preference will be
given to someone with a Ph.D. in Sociology in addition to significant graduate
course work in Criminal Justice.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Teach undergraduate sociology courses.
Teaching load consists of four (4) undergraduate courses each semester.
Provide university and professional service, inclusive of service on
departmental, school, and university committees, and student advisement.
Engagement in outreach and community service with a documented research
Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Position Requirements (including years of experience, certifications,
Ph.D. in Sociology or related field required.
Eighteen (18) hours of completed graduate college work courses in
criminal justice in addition to a Ph.D. in sociology is strongly desired.
Several years of teaching experience at the college level, preferably at a
Experience advising students on academic and career choices.
Ability to teach at the university level
Strong communication skills
Strong interpersonal skills
Experience in the criminal justice
The salary for each position is based on the grade/tier in which the position
is placed, and the salary within the grade/tier is based on the number of
years of related experience or number of years in the hiring rank.
