Description

Assistant / Associate Professor in Virology (Fixed Term)

The University of Cambridge wishes to appoint an Assistant/Associate Professor in Virology within the Division of Virology in the Department of Pathology. The post is available from approximately late 2022/early 2023.

The successful applicant will contribute to the Department's wide ranging research in Virology and the wider cross-Departmental research theme of Infection and Immunity, and also support the teaching and training of undergraduate and graduate students. The Department would like to recruit an individual who will complement and/or diversify existing research and teaching expertise within the Division of Virology.

More information about the Division of Virology and the Department of Pathology is available at www. path.cam.ac.uk/research/virology-division and at www. path.cam.ac.uk respectively. There is considerable strength in Virology across Cambridge supported by a University Infectious Disease network (www. infectiousdisease.cam.ac.uk) and an Infection and Immunity Research Theme (www. bio.cam.ac.uk/research/infection-immunity) that together foster interdepartmental interactions, collaborations, seminars and other events.

Applicants should have a PhD in a relevant subject and significant postdoctoral experience or equivalent, but it is not necessary for applicants to have previously held an independent group leader position. A demonstrated ability to perform and publish high-quality research that is commensurate with career stage is essential. Applicants are expected to demonstrate research excellence and project leadership, and experience and capability in the effective supervision and teaching of undergraduate and/or postgraduate students. The Department wishes to recruit an individual who will develop a research programme in virology that is likely to attract ongoing grant funding to allow the applicant to build their research group. A demonstrated ability to win external grant, industry or other funding would be advantageous.

The successful candidate is expected to advance their subject through research, supported by external grant funding, and leading to measurable impact and outputs. In addition, the successful candidate is expected to make a general contribution to the teaching, administrative and academic work of the Department and the University, including course development and teaching in courses for which the Department of Pathology is responsible.

Please ensure that you upload a single document containing (1) a covering letter, (2) your curriculum vitae (CV), (3) a list of publications (you may include preprints in recognised archives such as www. biorxiv.org), (4) a list of up to 10 key research outputs (typically publications but may include other significant outputs such as datasets, software, research materials, inventions, patents, activities) with a statement of up to 50 words maximum for each output describing its significance and your contribution, (5) a one-page statement of your research interests and future plans, and (6) a statement of up to one page listing your previous teaching, training and mentoring activities.

The deadline for applications is 30th October 2022. We aim to hold interviews in late November / early December 2022.

Once an offer of employment has been accepted, the successful candidate will be required to undergo a health assessment.
