The finance department in the Whitman School of Management at Syracuse
University invites applications for a full-time tenure track position in
Finance with primary emphasis on financial technology at the rank of
Assistant/Associate Professor beginning in mid-August 2022.
This recruitment is part of an ambitious Invest Syracuse Cluster Hire
Initiative in the broad area of big data and business analytics. As an
integral part of this investment, Syracuse University will recruit multiple
candidates for faculty positions for a research cluster in the focus area of
big data and business analytics. Faculty hired into these positions will build
on our existing strengths in the focus area and will participate in an
organized research cluster that spans multiple departments across the
The successful candidate is expected to undertake research in the area of
financial technology (FinTech), including broad topics such as machine
learning and artificial intelligence applied to finance, cryptocurrencies and
initial coin offerings, blockchain, robo-advising, and regulation of FinTech,
among others. This position is part of a cluster hire at Syracuse University;
as such, candidates should have strong knowledge in quantitative techniques,
good empirical research skills, and a deep interest in technology in general.
We expect the successful candidate to work well with other functional areas
both at Whitman and on campus.
Qualified candidates must have an earned Ph.D. in Finance or a related
discipline by the start of the appointment and a commitment to conducting high
quality, high impact research leading to publications in top outlets in
Finance. Candidates are expected to demonstrate promise for innovative
teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.

overall quality of their academic preparation and scholarly work, evidence of
commitment to teaching and skills as a teacher, and strength of
