Primary Purpose of Position
Nine (9) month, tenure track faculty appointment. Primary responsibilities will include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in child development and family studies, as well as early care and education, advising and mentoring students, supervising student teaching experiences, participating in curriculum development; engaging in accreditation procedures and program assessment; establishing a research agenda through interdisciplinary collaborations leading to grant writing and publications; serving on department, school and university committees and participating in other academic functions.
Primary Function of Organizational Unit
The Department of Family and Consumer Sciences is one of four academic departments within the College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences and is accredited by the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences (AAFCS). The department offers Bachelor of Science degrees in three program areas with the following six distinct specialty emphases: child development and family relations; child development, early education and family studies (B-K licensure); consumer sciences; fashion merchandising and design; food and nutritional sciences (food science); and food and nutritional sciences (nutrition and pre-medicine in nutrition). Additionally, the department offers a Master of Science degree in food and nutritional sciences, an online Master of Arts in Teaching in family and consumer sciences education, a Master of Arts in Teaching in child development, early education and family studies (birth-kindergarten licensure), an online Advanced Certificate in family and consumer sciences, an online certificate in family financial planning, a graduate certificate in human lactation pathway 2, and a graduate certificate in food quality, safety and protection. Faculty are actively engaged in research that contributes to the body of knowledge in the areas of nutrition, food science, housing, apparel, textiles, child development and family issues.
Minimum Requirements
Earned doctorate in child development, early childhood education (B-K), early intervention, family studies, human development, or closely related field from an accredited university;
Demonstrated ability to teach undergraduate and graduate courses (traditional and online delivery) in child development, early childhood education (B-K), developmental assessment and evaluation, human development, and family studies;
Experience with student advising and mentoring; development of curriculum materials; assessment of programs; supervising student teachers and students enrolled in supervised internships; providing leadership and mentorship for students' professional development;
Strong technology skills related to delivery of distance education; and
Documented record of scholarly achievement and grant writing experience.
