The Department of Molecular Science at the UTRGV SOM is located in Edinburg, TX, and seeks to hire a highly qualified faculty member to teach anatomy/histology primarily within the pre-clerkship curricular years of the MD program. The faculty member will be a teaching resource in sessions/lectures and provide laboratory demonstrations in Anatomy, Embryology and Histology to students in the pre-clerkship curriculum. Specifically, the faculty member would primarily assist with the Language of Medicine course within the pre-clerkship curriculum.

The Language of Medicine module extends laterally across other course modules and longitudinally into both years of the pre-clerkship MD curriculum. It provides an integrated approach to the anatomical, embryological and histological details relevant to each organ system, while also developing the clinical skills required to advance towards the clerkship phase of the curriculum. In addition to addressing the underlying basic science, this module also addresses relevant pathological changes seen either anatomically, histologically or during embryological development, in response to disease, injury or genetic abnormalities. This module encourages the development of skills that promote the use of evidence-based approaches towards the understanding, mitigation and treatment of disease.

The faculty member will also be required to serve as a facilitator in the Problem based learning components of the modules across the entire pre- clerkship curriculum. Additionally, this position requires involvement with academic assessment, student academic remediation, individualized tutoring of students, along with any other relevant administrative duties that may be assigned by the departmental chair.
