Jackson State University, an NCAA Division I member of the Southwestern Athletic Conference and one of the leading institutions of higher education in the region is accepting applications for the position of Assistant AD for Academics. This position will report to reports to the Associate Athletic Director for Compliance & Academics and is responsible for providing guidance in registration, advising, mentoring, tutoring, and monitoring of eligibility records for student-athletes. The Assistant AD for Academics will be charged with assisting the Associate AD for Compliance and Academics with coordinating programs to ensure compliance with all University, Conference, and NCAA rules and regulations governing the intercollegiate athletics program. Serving as a liaison to all sports for all academic-related issues; performing research and providing interpretations of rules, regulations, and policies to both internal and external constituents; staying up-to-date on current trends and legislation in the industry and communicating this information to the appropriate constituents; researching and preparing violations academic reports, waivers, and appeals; monitoring progress-toward-degree requirements of student-athletes pursuant to NCAA rules and regulations and assisting with eligibility certification for all sports in coordination with compliance support staff.

Qualifications

Minimum Required Education

Master's Degree is preferred but not required. Bachelor's Degree is required.

Minimum Required Experience

Must have at least three (3) years of experience as a Compliance Personnel on the collegiate level.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

Specific duties and responsibilities associated with this position shall include, but are not be limited to:

  • Assisting students in evaluating and determining their interests and abilities; and helping students link their interests abilities with a major and/or programs
  • Providing academic advising to student-athletes
  • Assisting with enrollment, admissions, and orientation procedures
  • Providing support to students who are on academic probation.
  • Providing guidance about graduate/professional school; career/internship opportunities and the job search process
  • Helping students link looming and professional preparation in the workplace.
  • Develop work plans, policies, and reports in accordance with established departmental objectives
  • Representing the department on committees established to design and implement changes to university policies and procedures
  • Developing NCAA eligibility reports, and coordinating training of NCAA eligibility regulations to entry-level advising staff
  • Evaluating transcripts of incoming transfer students and determining if they meet their NCAA eligibility requirements prior to their enrollment into the institution
  • Participating in on-campus recruiting
  • Meeting with prospective student-athletes and parents to review the JSU athletic academic services and facilities
  • Facilitating on-campus meetings with appropriate academic school representatives
  • Working with faculty and coaches as needed
