The Artist-in-Residence is a non-tenure track faculty position appointed on
the basis of outstanding professional attainments, creative accomplishments,
and recognition in his or her specific field and renders specified service to
the University including lectures, performances, demonstrations, master
classes, and consultations.
Description of Primary Duties
The successful candidate will help further advance the Theatre and Dance
Department's reputation for excellence in professional performance training by
teaching voice technique and style to Musical Theatre BFA students.
Responsibilities include augmenting voice studios with coaching in the CCM
style. Active contributions to the development of the musical theatre
curriculum and participation in departmental meetings, musical theatre
auditions and musical theatre recruitment activities are expected.
Minimum Acceptable Qualifications
The minimum acceptable qualifications for the position of Artist-in-Residence
are prescribed in the Faculty Handbook. The ability to develop knowledge of,
respect for, and skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds
Required qualifications include the following: a record of teaching voice for
musical theatre and popular genres; a commitment to functional voice training
grounded in voice science, vocal function, and contemporary pedagogy
techniques; must be comfortable teaching belting with a chest-dominant
approach, and should be comfortable teaching students to sing legit,
contemporary, and pop/rock musical theatre repertoire; a marked passion for
teaching/mentoring; a DMA, MM or MFA degree (completed by August 2022); and
an orientation towards collaborative work.
