The Artist-in-Residence is a non-tenure track faculty position appointed on the basis of outstanding professional attainments, creative accomplishments, and recognition in his or her specific field and renders specified service to the University including lectures, performances, demonstrations, master classes, and consultations.
Description of Primary Duties
Depending on the candidate's strengths and needs of the Band area, primary duties will include: Conducting Wind Symphony ensemble (second concert band) during the Fall and Spring Assist with Missouri State Pride Marching Band Supervise Bearmania pep bands Teach Band Admin and Materials class in the Spring Assist Director of Bands in recruitment efforts and overall administration of the band program Ability to work collegially with faculty colleagues, administration, and alumni while maintaining MSU's Public Affairs Mission of cultural competence, community engagement, and ethical leadership
Minimum Acceptable Qualifications
The minimum acceptable qualifications for the position of Artist-in-Residence are prescribed in the Faculty Handbook. The ability to develop knowledge of, respect for, and skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds is required.
Additional Qualifications
The successful candidate will possess: Teaching experience directing a contemporary marching band and concert band; Minimum of three years public school teaching experience; Collegiate/University-level teaching experience. Must be able to work collaboratively with public school band programs and demonstrate ability to work with diverse groups associated with university bands including students, faculty, administration, athletic staff, development staff, alumni, and community members. Salary commensurate with teaching experience and education. Terminal Degree in Music (DMA, DA, or PhD) required.

The date of first consideration is June 1, 2022 and will continue until the position is filled. Expected start date is August 1, 2022.
Applicants should submit a cover letter addressing the above qualifications, a current resume or CV, links to videos of a recent field show they had a significant role in preparing (applicant should describe their role in the production of the performance – drill writer, teacher, etc.), a 15-minute concert band rehearsal video, a 15-minute concert band performance video and the names, addresses, e-mail addresses, and telephone numbers of three recent references.
