European XFEL is an international non-profit company located in the Hamburg area in Germany. It operates a 3.4 km-long X-ray laser, which produces X-rays of unique quality for studies in physics, chemistry, the life sciences, materials research and other disciplines. The diverse scientific facilities at European XFEL enable scientists from across the globe to carry out a wide range of experimental techniques.

We are looking for a

Archives and Publications Student Assistant (f/m/d) - 16 hours per week The position

The Archives and Publications Student Assistant will assist with two separate projects.

Archives project: European XFEL is moving its collection of paper archives into a new custom-built archive store room. As a Student Assistant, you will work with the Records Manager at European XFEL to support the preparations for this move. You will also assist in the digital archiving of European XFEL's internal communications platform.

Publications project: You will assist with the maintenance of European XFEL's Publication Database by tracking and inputting publications by the facility's staff, guests, and users. Other Publication Database tasks include assisting in the management of user accounts and authority records.

Your tasks will include:

  • Assisting in keeping the European XFEL Publication Database up to date.
  • Boxing, packaging, numbering, and listing European XFEL records in preparation for the archive move.
  • Assisting in archiving European XFEL's internal communications platform.
  • Requirements
  • Ongoing studies in archives and records management, library management, or information management in the Hamburg area
  • Ability to analyse records and write short, accurate descriptions of records.
  • Good attention to detail and organized approach to work.
  • Able to do some physical tasks (moving boxes weighing up to 10–15 kg)
  • English is the working language at European XFEL. Knowledge of the German language would be an considered an advantage.
